About Escapium – Escape Room Game WordPress Theme
You do not sell places: you sell the whole room for an hour
It is the difference that breaks almost every generic booking system, and worth understanding before building anything.
A restaurant sells tables and can combine parties. A cinema sells individual seats. An escape room does neither: when a group of four books six o'clock, the room is blocked for everybody else, whether four come or eight. And it does not free up at seven, because half an hour is needed to reset every prop, restart the mechanisms and clean.
That means your calendar is not hours: it is blocks of game plus reset, and the price depends on group size even though the slot occupied is the same. A system that does not understand that will let you sell two overlapping games, which is the mistake that ruins an evening and a review.
Escapium is a WordPress theme for escape rooms and adventure games, and it includes the Booked booking plugin.
What it contributes
- Room structure, with a page for each game.
- Booking included through the Booked plugin, which comes in the package.
- An event approach, so it also works for other schedule-based businesses.
- A mystery aesthetic, which in this sector is part of the sale.
The room's page has to answer five things
The visitor arrives with a group of friends and one doubt: whether this will go well or be an awkward hour. These five answers close the booking.
How many people fit, with minimum and maximum. Four people in a room for eight get bored; eight in a room for four get in each other's way.
The difficulty, with the real escape rate. Saying only thirty per cent escape sells better than saying it is hard, because it is a figure and not an opinion.
The fear level, said plainly. If there is an actor, total darkness or jump scares, it belongs at the top. A group arriving without knowing has a bad time and writes about it.
The recommended age and whether an adult is needed. It is the question that most comes in by phone.
Accessibility. If there are stairs, tight spaces or crawling involved, saying so stops somebody booking and being unable to play.
And one thing to do the opposite way round from normal: do not tell the whole story. Here an extra detail spoils the product, so the text hints and stops.
What decides the revenue is not on the website
An escape room has a physical ceiling of games per day, so growth comes from two places and they belong planned from the start.
Companies. Team days get booked on weekday mornings, which is when your room is empty. It is the most profitable slot there is and it needs its own page with invoicing and group quotes.
Gift vouchers. Half this sector's customers arrive as a present. Selling the voucher in advance is cash today for a game played in three months.
Requirements
It needs WordPress. Booking comes with the included plugin, although it is worth checking you can configure the block duration and the reset time between games before opening sales.
Alternatives in the catalogue
On the same ground, Escapade and Exit Game cover the same case with a different aesthetic.
If your business is leisure of another kind, there are specific themes: Bowl for bowling alleys and Rangun for paintball and adventure sports.
And if the included booking falls short, which is normal once you have several rooms and several shifts, the catalogue's serious systems are Amelia, BookingPress and Pinpoint Booking System, which handle resources, shifts and per-person pricing better.
Frequently asked questions
Does it include a booking system?
Yes, the Booked plugin comes in the theme package.
Does it handle reset time between games?
That is what to check before opening sales, because without it bookings overlap.
Is it suitable for several rooms?
Yes, although with several rooms and shifts a more complete booking system is worth considering.
How much of the story should I tell?
Little. Here extra content spoils the experience you are selling.
What does the customer need before booking?
Capacity, difficulty, fear level, recommended age and accessibility.
Where does growth come from?
Corporate groups on weekdays and selling gift vouchers in advance.
