About EventON RSS Feed Addon
A feed ordered by publishing puts the last thing you wrote first
Today you add next month's concert, and next week you add tomorrow's talk. In a feed ordered by publishing, the last thing you wrote goes first, even if it happens before or after the previous one.
In an events feed, ordering by publish date follows when you wrote each event and ordering by start time follows when it happens, and you have to choose which one subscribers see.
EventON's RSS Feed add-on generates a real-time updated feed with your calendar's events, in an XML file that RSS readers understand. Whoever subscribes receives new events without returning to your site. Among its settings is exactly that choice of order, along with hiding past events.
A main feed and one for each event type
- Feed button: added to any EventON calendar with the rss="yes" attribute in the shortcode.
- Button style: set under EventON, Settings, Appearance, RSS Styles.
- Feed address: the /evofeed path can be replaced with another of your choice under EventON, Settings, RSS Feed.
- Event order: by publish date or by start time.
- Past events: hiding them is an option under Settings, RSS Feed.
- Feeds per event type: besides the main feed, feed addresses are generated for each event type.
- XML output: the file includes the XML properties that readers require.
The add-on does not need additional APIs to generate the feed. To highlight on your site the events offered by feed, EventON's Slider add-on can show them and encourage subscriptions.
An activities calendar with several categories
A cultural center that organizes concerts, workshops and talks can offer one feed per event type, and each reader subscribes only to the one they care about. With the option to hide past events and the order by start time, past events stay out and the order follows when each one starts. You can follow this outline or change it to fit your project.
Scope of the add-on
- The main EventON plugin must be installed and active.
- Among its functions there is no event import from other sites: the feed comes from the events in your calendar.
- Visitors subscribe with an RSS reader and the feed address.
- Among its functions there is no emailing to subscribers: each reader fetches the feed on its own.
