About FacetWP Mobile Flyout Addon

Filters that swallow half the screen on mobile

A shop or listing with ten filters looks fine on desktop, but on mobile those filters push the results so far down that visitors get tired of scrolling before they see a single product. FacetWP Mobile Flyout Addon solves exactly that: it generates a sliding side panel that gathers the filters and takes them out of the page flow.

Whoever installs this already uses FacetWP, and their problem is not filtering, but making filtering work just as well on a small screen.

What FacetWP Mobile Flyout Addon puts in the panel and how you adjust it

By default, the panel shows every facet on the page, in the same order, even if the same facet appears more than once. Three types are left out: Pager facets, Map facets and user selections.

  • Limit or reorder: you can choose which facets go in the panel and in what order, with a code example documented by the add-on itself.
  • Add content: user selections and other extra elements are added through the panel template.
  • Automatic headings: each facet carries its label as an h3 heading. If you prefer another level, it is changed with code, and with CSS you can hide all the headings.

You place the button that opens the panel yourself

The add-on does not place any button on its own. You have to add a button or link with the CSS class facetwp-flyout-open, which is what opens the panel. If you use Elementor or Beaver Builder with the matching FacetWP add-on installed, there is a button widget or module with a Flyout button option, so you do not need to write HTML.

If your site is multilingual, the button text is only translated properly if you add it with PHP using FacetWP's translation function; that way it appears in WPML or other translation plugins.

Decide whether the panel is enough or you need to touch code

This add-on is simple, but it is not install-and-forget. These are the most common questions before choosing it.

Does it work without FacetWP?

No. It is a FacetWP add-on and only makes sense if you already filter with that plugin.

Does it hide the desktop filters on mobile by itself?

No, not unless you ask for it. For the page filters to disappear on small screens and remain only in the panel, you have to add a CSS rule with the breakpoint you want. Make sure the button stays visible at those widths.

Can I remove the facets from the HTML instead of hiding them?

No. The facets must remain in the page code for the panel to detect them, so they can only be hidden with CSS.

Do I have to hide the button on desktop?

Yes, if you do not want to see it there: this is also solved with a CSS rule based on screen width.

Can I put the map or the pagination in the panel?

Map facets, pagination and user selections are excluded by default. The selections can be added through the panel template.
