A company website ages through its data, not its design

Someone new joins the team, a service gets dropped, a partner turns up who deserves a place on the site. If all of that lives handwritten inside a page, every change means hunting for where it was, and soon someone decides to leave it for another day. That is how a sound website ends up showing a team that no longer exists.

Flevr starts from a different structure: services, team, partners, features, testimonials and portfolio are content types of their own, not loose paragraphs. Each item is edited in its own record, and the listing page for that type takes care of showing it.

That is why, when weighing up a business theme, the home page on day one counts for less than what it costs to keep it accurate two years later.

Six content types and a home page built with widgets

• Custom content types: features, services, team members, portfolio, testimonials and partners, plus the slider items.
• Two home pages: the Frontpage with Slider and Frontpage with Video templates, followed by a full-width widget area.
• Eleven custom widgets for displaying content, among them CI Items, CI Hero and CI Testimonials.
• Post Type Listing template: you choose the content type, a column or sidebar layout, how many columns and how many items.
• Category filter, optional on listings.
• Sloped bottom edges, which can be turned off, and up to five linked icons beside the newsletter form.

The image sizes to have before ordering photos

Flevr works with specific sizes, and knowing them saves a second photo session or a bad crop across someone's face:

• Home page slider: 1920 x 550 px.
• Header images: 1920 x 300 px.
• Portfolio thumbnails: 750 x 430 px.
• Listing page thumbnails: 700 x 500 px.

The first two are very wide, low strips, so those images need to be planned as horizontal from the start.

Bookings, forms and shop: what the theme does not bring

It presents the company, it does not run it. Among its features there are no bookings, quotes or client area.

Several pieces are separate plugins. Forms come with Contact Form 7, and the shop with WooCommerce, which you only need if you are going to sell. The recommended plugins do not include a page builder either: the Page builder template leaves the space, and you bring the builder.

The date is worth a look. The catalogue version is 2.3.6, from September 2022. Test it on a copy of the site with your version of WordPress and your plugins before taking it to production.

Getting started on a clean install

The sample content import should be done on a clean WordPress, without an existing site on top. From there, the order is this:

1. Activate the theme and install the recommended plugins, among them One Click Demo Import, CSSIgniter Shortcodes and Contact Form 7.
2. Import the sample content, or create the Home page by hand with one of the two home page templates.
3. Under Settings > Reading, set Home as the static front page and an empty blog page as the posts page.
4. Create a page with Post Type Listing for each content type you will use, and load your services, team and partners.
5. Assign the menu to the Main location and arrange the home page under Appearance > Widgets > Front Page Widgets.

Do I need a page builder?

Not for the home page, which is built with widgets. Only if you want to use the Page builder template.

Can I build a shop with it?

Yes, by installing WooCommerce. The theme adds shop layout options and related products.

Can the sloped edges be removed?

Yes, they are optional and can be turned off in the theme settings.
