About GA Google Analytics Pro

Pasting the tracking code into your theme header seems simple until you switch themes and visits stop being counted, or until you discover that for months you have been measuring your own visits as an administrator. GA Google Analytics Pro solves that kind of oversight: it connects WordPress with Google Analytics and lets you decide precisely what gets measured and what doesn't.

Measuring well means knowing what to leave out

People who install an analytics plugin usually think about adding data, but the quality of your statistics depends more on what you exclude. If you, your team and your editors browse the site while logged in, they inflate visits and distort conversions. This plugin lets you stop tracking administrators or all logged-in users, and also exclude specific posts by ID, user roles, content types, search results and post archives.

Those options are in the Advanced tab, where you can also enable tracking on the login page or in the admin area, something almost nobody needs but that is sometimes useful.

Tracking methods and custom code in GA Google Analytics Pro

You just enter your tracking ID. From there you choose between three methods: Universal Analytics (the default), Global Site Tag, or legacy tracking, which is marked as deprecated. It also supports Google Analytics 4, display advertising, enhanced link attribution, IP anonymization and forced SSL.

The Customize tab is the part that sets it apart from the free version:

  • Set up several tracking codes at once.
  • Add custom code to a specific post or page, to the whole front end or to the whole admin area.
  • Choose the location of each code.
  • See a live preview before saving.

An opt-out box for your visitors

The plugin includes a configurable Opt-Out Box. It can be displayed automatically or via shortcode, placed wherever you want, restyled, have all its texts changed, hide itself or open and close with a sliding effect, and even appear as a centered overlay. It helps when you work with privacy regulations such as the GDPR, but it is a tool to offer that option to the person visiting the site, not a compliance guarantee on its own. If your site requires a cookie banner that blocks cookies until consent is given, you will need to consider that separately.

Deciding whether this is the plugin you need

It is a good choice if you manage a site with several tracking codes, if you need to exclude specific roles or content, or if you want an opt-out box without coding. If you just want to paste an ID and forget about it, the free version already covers that and the main tracking methods.

Does it show statistics inside WordPress?

No. It connects your site with your Google Analytics account, and you view the statistics there, logging in whenever you want.

Do I need to know how to code?

No. You only need the tracking ID. Custom code is optional, and every option in the plugin has documentation in the help tab on each screen.

Does it work with any theme?

It is built with WordPress APIs and is designed to work with any theme and with other plugins.

What does it add compared with the free version?

The opt-out box and its shortcodes, the live preview, several tracking codes with configurable location, custom code, and exclusions of users and content.

Does it replace a cookie consent manager?

No. It offers the opt-out box, but it is not described as a system that blocks cookies based on consent.
