About GamiPress - Easy Digital Downloads Points Gateway
The points a customer pays reach the product's vendor
You accept points as payment and assume a spent point is a point leaving circulation. But when your downloads have a vendor, the point the customer pays does not disappear: it changes owner.
Every purchase with points moves two balances, the paying customer's and the download vendor's, so your points economy has a second recipient worth watching.
GamiPress Easy Digital Downloads Points Gateway turns GamiPress points types into an Easy Digital Downloads payment gateway. You define the conversion rate for each type and the add-on does the conversion automatically on every purchase.
How payment works and what gets recorded
- One points type, one gateway: each type appears as a payment method.
- Rate per type: the conversion is defined for each type separately.
- Balance in view: the user's points total is shown at checkout and on the purchase receipt.
- Points for the vendor: each download's vendor receives points in proportion to the purchase, except when they buy their own product.
- Refunds: the customer's points are restored.
- User Earnings: when points are deducted or awarded in a transaction, a new entry is created.
There are filters to decide whether the vendor receives the points and whether they are deducted when a refund is processed, and others to customize what appears at checkout and on the receipt.
A purchase with points and its refund
One possible path: a purchase paid with points for a product that has a vendor, followed by its refund. At each step the customer's balance, the vendor's and the User Earnings entries change. If the vendor keeps the points after the refund, the filter that deducts them covers that case. Take it as a starting point and adapt it to your store.
Rounding and full payments
The price in points always rounds up to the next whole number, with no decimals. And only full payments are supported: the customer cannot cover part of an order with points and the rest with another method. Partial payments need the GamiPress Easy Digital Downloads Partial Payments add-on.
It also cannot be turned on or off per product, because each points type is registered as a whole gateway. To limit a gateway to certain products, the Easy Digital Downloads Conditional Gateways plugin is suggested.
Getting it running
It requires GamiPress and Easy Digital Downloads installed and active. To get started:
- Install the add-on with the WordPress installer and activate it.
- Define the conversion rate of each points type you want to accept.
- Customers choose that points type as the payment method.

Can the customer pay part with points?
Not with this add-on: it only supports full payments.

Can I enable it only on some products?
Not directly. Conditional Gateways is suggested for that.
