About GamiPress - Purchases
An achievement you can buy no longer certifies effort alone
Your community sees each member's achievements and ranks and reads them as a signal: this person did this, got this far. If you open the door to buying them, that signal changes meaning without anyone announcing it.
When an achievement or a rank can be bought, it no longer says on its own what that person did, which is why it is worth deciding beforehand which ones you put on sale.
GamiPress Purchases is a GamiPress add-on that lets you sell points, access to achievements and access to ranks with purchase forms, payment gateways, receipts and history. The price is up to you, and so is the list of what is sold and what is still earned the hard way.
Three purchase forms and their payment handling
There is a form for each thing that can be bought:
- Points: a fixed amount, an amount the user types or a list of predefined amounts. Each form can pay money for an amount of points or spend a money amount to receive the points it corresponds to.
- Achievement: the user unlocks the achievement without completing its steps.
- Rank: the user reaches the rank without meeting its requirements or going through the previous ranks.
Each points type has its own conversion rate, and any achievement or rank accepts an access price. Forms are placed with a shortcode, a Gutenberg block or a widget, and the purchase history also exists as a block and widget so each user can review their purchases.
Payment can be made by bank transfer, PayPal Standard or Stripe. You can add taxes by country, state and postal code, configure the receipt email for the customer and a notice for administrators, and show an acceptance checkbox for data collection. In the admin you can edit a payment, resend the receipt and refund.
An example with a paid rank
Suppose you have an intermediate rank that gives access to an area of the community and you want to sell it as a shortcut:
- Set an access price for that rank.
- Insert the rank purchase form on the page where you present the area.
Take it as a starting point and adapt it to your community.
The add-on's six activity events, including "access to a specific rank", let you chain other GamiPress rules to the purchase, such as a welcome notice.
Limits of the add-on
Among its features there are no payment gateways besides the three listed. Keep that in mind if you charge with a different one.
First steps and requirements
You need GamiPress installed and active, plus the accounts or details of the gateway you will use: PayPal's, Stripe's or your bank account details for transfers.
- Install and activate the add-on with the WordPress installer.
- In the GamiPress settings, configure the currency, gateways, taxes and emails.
- Set the conversion rate of each points type and the access price of the achievements or ranks you want to sell.
- Insert the form with its shortcode, block or widget, and add the purchase history where users can see it.
