About GamiPress - Referrals
Here the commission is paid in a currency you issue
You want your own users to bring you visits, sign-ups and sales, but an affiliate program with money involved forces you to settle payments. GamiPress Referrals takes another route: each referral becomes a GamiPress event, and the reward comes in the points, achievements or ranks you already use on your site.
That turns every commission point into a promise you issue yourself. On sales, the percentage is calculated in points on the purchase total: at 100% the affiliate receives as many points as the purchase total, at 200% double and at 50% half. Before choosing the figure you need to know what someone gets with those points on your site, because that is where the cost of each referred sale comes from.
The commission is disabled on all points types by default and is set on each type separately, with a percentage of 0 to turn it off. If the purchase is refunded, the points awarded for it are taken back automatically.
What it can reward, for the referrer and the arrival
- Visits: get a referral visit, get one on a specific post and reach a set number.
- Sign-ups: get a sign-up, register through a referral and reach a set number.
- Sales, with WooCommerce or Easy Digital Downloads: get a sale, general or of a product, buy through a referral and reach a set number.
- Refunds: referral sale refunded, product refunded and number of refunded sales.
Each user's link and where to check it
- Configurable parameter: by default it is ref, and it should not match any WordPress parameter. You also choose which user field is used in the link.
- Link generator: with
[gamipress_referral_url_generator]or its widget, users turn any address on the site into a link with their identifier, and get a notice if the address is incorrect. - Data on display:
[gamipress_affiliate_id],[gamipress_referral_url]and[gamipress_referrals_count]show the identifier, the link and the counts, with widgets as well. There is a button to copy the link. - Control in the profile: when editing a user you see who referred them, their link, and their visits, sign-ups, sales and refunded sales. The sales count already excludes refunded ones.
Points yes, bank transfers no, and a one-day cookie
Its features do not include money payouts to affiliates or multi-level commissions. The commission it handles is in points.
The cookie lasts one day by default. To know that a referred visitor went on to sign up, the add-on creates gamipress_referrals_ref, which expires after one day unless a developer changes that period with the gamipress_referrals_cookie_lifetime filter. If your audience takes longer to decide, test what happens with those late sign-ups before promising rewards for them.
Two built-in stores. Purchase events and commissions come integrated with WooCommerce and Easy Digital Downloads.
The first link in circulation, with GamiPress active
It is an add-on: without GamiPress installed it awards nothing. From there:
- Activate the add-on and open Settings, Add-ons tab, in GamiPress.
- Define the URL parameter and the user field for links.
- Add the events you want to reward to your points, achievements or ranks.
- If you sell, set the percentage in the Referrals: Sale Commissions box of the points type.
- Publish the link, the counter and the generator on a user page.
- Run a full test with another account: visit, sign-up, purchase and refund.

Can a user create their link for any page?
Yes. The generator turns any address on the site into a link with their identifier.
What happens to the points if the purchase is returned?
The points from that commission are taken back automatically and the refunded sale event fires.
Can I reward visits to a single page?
Yes, with the referral visit event on a specific post.
