About GamiPress - Social Share
Each share can reward two different people
Whoever shares your article on a network advertises for you, but also for the author of the text. If you pay only the person who shares, whoever wrote what was shared is left out.
This add-on has events for the person who shares and separate events for the author who receives the share, so you decide whom to reward in each case.
GamiPress Social Share is a GamiPress add-on that rewards users for sharing your site's content on social networks, and rewards creators when their posts receive shares. The networks it covers are Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Pinterest. In total there are twelve activity events to build requirements for achievements, ranks or points.
The twelve events and the two ways of sharing
- Sharing a URL (4 events): any URL or a specific one, on any network or on a specific network.
- Sharing a post (4 events): any post or a specific one, on any network or on a specific one.
- Getting a share, for the author (4 events): on any post or on a specific one, from any network or from a specific one.
Facebook also lets you reward sharing and liking separately.
How the buttons are displayed
- Shortcode
[gamipress_social_share], with attributes such as alignment, URL and the Pinterest thumbnail. The title can be left empty. - Widget with alignment, URL, thumbnail URL and Pinterest options.
- Gutenberg block, compatible with GamiPress blocks.
- Automatic output that adds the buttons to any post type, configured in the add-on settings.
- Several buttons with different URLs on the same page.
The button markup lives in a template called share-buttons.php, in case you want to adapt it. There are also JavaScript events when sharing and filters to extend each network's parameters and delay the events.
A use case: rewarding the author and the sharer
One possible combination: you create an achievement for whoever shares any post on any network, and another for the author who receives a share on any of their posts. With automatic output enabled on your posts, the buttons appear without touching each template.
This is one idea of use; adjust it to your site.
What to check before using it
Facebook requires a Facebook App ID, and the add-on uses a temporary one until you configure yours. Pinterest does not show on posts without a featured image, so it is worth setting one.
To get started:
- Install and activate the add-on with GamiPress running.
- Open GamiPress, Settings, Add-ons and the Social Share section. Choose alignment, URL, thumbnail, the Facebook App ID, the Pinterest options and the post types with automatic output.
- Create an achievement and add one of the twelve events as a requirement.
