About GamiPress WooCommerce Points Gateway

The price in points always rounds up

You let customers pay with points and define how many points each unit of your currency is worth. You expect a product to cost exactly what the math says. But a price with decimals cannot be paid with half a point, and someone has to decide what happens to the fraction.

The fraction of a point always goes up to the next whole number, so every price with a fraction rounds against the customer and in favor of your store, and the effect weighs more on cheap products.

GamiPress WooCommerce Points Gateway turns any GamiPress points type into a payment method at the WooCommerce checkout. Each points type has its own conversion rate, and once it is set, the conversion happens by itself on every purchase.

How paying with points works

  • Each points type is a gateway: it appears as a payment method at checkout.
  • Own rate per type: you set how many points each unit of currency equals for each type.
  • Visible balance: the user's points total is shown at checkout and in the order details.
  • Balance notices: if the customer lacks the points required, checkout shows error messages.
  • Refunds: the customer's points are returned.
  • Record: when points are deducted or awarded in a transaction, an entry is created in User Earnings.

If your store has vendors, the points from the purchase go to the product's vendor in proportion to what was bought. A vendor who buys their own product receives no points, and there are filters to decide whether they receive points and whether those are deducted on a refund.

A low rate and a cheap product

A case where the rounding shows: a points type with a low rate, a low-priced product and a purchase paid with that type. The resulting price in points differs from the exact calculation, and an entry is left in User Earnings. With that difference in view you can decide whether the rate works or whether another points type with a different equivalence suits better. It is an example to adjust to your store's rates.

Full payments and no per-product control

It only supports full payments: the customer cannot cover part of an order with points and the rest with money. GamiPress WooCommerce Partial Payments exists for that. It also cannot be enabled or disabled per product, because each points type is registered as a full gateway; to limit it per product, the WooCommerce Conditional Shipping and Payments plugin is recommended.

It is compatible with high-performance order storage (HPOS) and with WooCommerce checkout blocks.

Getting it running

It requires GamiPress and WooCommerce installed and active. To get started:

  1. Install the add-on with the WordPress installer and activate it.
  2. Open the settings of the points type you want to accept and set its conversion rate.
  3. Customers choose that points type as the payment method.

Alternatives with points in the store

If you want part of the order paid with points and part with money, look at GamiPress WooCommerce Partial Payments. For other points systems in the store, the catalog also includes WooCommerce Points and Rewards and myCred WooCommerce Plus.

Answers about the add-on

Can I pay only part of the order with points?

Not with this add-on, which only supports full payments. Another add-on handles partial payments.

What happens to the points if I refund an order?

They are restored to the customer.

Can I offer several points types?

Yes. Each points type has its own rate and works as a separate gateway.

Does it work with WooCommerce checkout blocks?

Yes, it is compatible with checkout blocks and with HPOS.
