About GetPaid > Wallet
Wallet money comes in through one door and can leave through another
A customer tops up their balance by card and, weeks later, wants back what they did not spend. Before offering a wallet it helps to know what you will answer to that request.
The top-up can come in through any of your active gateways, but the withdrawal only goes out to a PayPal account, so you must decide from the start whether the balance will be credit to buy with or money the customer can take out.
GetPaid Wallet adds to GetPaid a balance per customer that is topped up, spent on products or invoices and, if you allow it, withdrawn. Every step leaves a recorded transaction. It is an add-on for GetPaid: without the main plugin it does not work.
Balance operations and their log
- Top-up: the customer adds funds with any payment gateway you have active.
- Spending: the balance pays for products or invoices.
- Withdrawal: the customer can withdraw their balance to a PayPal account. You can disable withdrawals in the settings.
- Minimum to withdraw: you can require a minimum balance before allowing the withdrawal.
- Wallet widget: shows the balance with top-up and withdraw buttons, and each button opens a lightbox. Top-ups are processed instantly.
- Transaction log: a page called Wallet Transactions, inside the GetPaid settings, lists the balance changes of all users. You can limit how many records are kept.
A customer who pays invoices with balance
This combination is our own and should be tested with a test account before opening it to customers. Imagine a service that bills small jobs frequently. The customer tops up once with the gateway they prefer and then pays each invoice from their balance, without repeating the card payment.
To check it, top up a test account, pay an invoice with that balance and open Wallet Transactions to see that each movement is recorded. If you are going to allow withdrawals, also make a test withdrawal to a PayPal account of your own.
What happens on withdrawal and what is up to you
Among its functions there is no withdrawal method other than PayPal. A customer who topped up by another means and withdraws their balance receives it in a PayPal account.
The wallet does not decide the policy for you: you choose whether withdrawals are allowed, from what minimum balance and how many transactions are kept in the log. If you disable withdrawals, the balance works as purchase credit.
Installing and configuring the wallet
Requirements: the GetPaid plugin installed and at least one active payment gateway for top-ups. For withdrawals, a PayPal account.
- Install GetPaid Wallet with the WordPress installer and activate it.
- Check that a payment gateway is active in GetPaid.
- Review in the settings whether you allow withdrawals, the minimum balance to withdraw and the log limit.
- Place the wallet widget where the customer will see it and make a test top-up.
Wallets for other stores
If your store runs on WooCommerce rather than GetPaid, the catalog includes Wallet for WooCommerce, Wallet System for WooCommerce Pro and FS WooCommerce Wallet.
