About GP Submit to Access

GP Submit to Access: the form as a door, not a pop-up

An ebook or a template behind a form usually ends badly: either the download link gets shared without anyone filling in anything, or the pop-up is closed unread. GP Submit to Access solves it from the other side: the content isn't shown until the visitor submits a Gravity Forms form.

That's an advantage if you want to capture contacts without forcing anyone to create an account, and a problem if you expect a members area.

A whole page or just one block

You can lock an entire post from the block editor settings or from the classic editor metabox. You can also lock just one section: you enable the option on a specific block or use a shortcode.

What sits behind the door can vary:

  • A download that only appears after an interest form.
  • Paid content, with a payment form as the door.
  • Multi-step content, where each form unlocks the next part.
  • Results or resources that appear after a quiz or an event RSVP.

You decide which forms give access to each piece of content. If you pick several, submitting one is enough. And if you enable unique submission, the visitor must fill in the form on that specific page: a submission made on another page doesn't count.

What the visitor sees before getting in

There are three behaviors. You can show a message with the form at the bottom, or place the form wherever you want inside the message with the {form} tag. You can redirect to another page where the form lives (full pages only). Or you can hide the block entirely, useful when you lock several on the same page. You can also customize the message shown while the submission is processed and the content is loaded.

If you redirect to another page, you can send the visitor back to the now unlocked content: set the form confirmation as a redirect and use the {gpsa_gated_url} tag as the destination.

How long access lasts, and what happens if cookies are cleared

Duration is chosen from three options: until the browser is closed, indefinitely, or a custom period from minutes to years. There are global defaults under Forms > Settings that can be overridden on each piece of content.

Two details worth knowing. If you change the duration, access already granted keeps the previous one. And anyone who clears their cookies will have to submit the form again. For logged-in users, a filter lets you store access in their profile, and then it can only be revoked by deleting it from there.

It needs Gravity Forms, and you build the form

It's an add-on for Gravity Forms: without that plugin there is nothing to activate. Who does what:

  • The plugin handles: locking pages or blocks, choosing which forms unlock each piece of content, messages or redirects, access duration and a tamperproof lock.
  • The plugin handles: paid access without creating user accounts, using Gravity Forms' payment gateways.
  • You handle: designing the form and its fields in Gravity Forms.
  • You handle: contracting and configuring the payment gateway if you want to charge.
  • You handle: moving those contacts into your email tool or CRM.
  • You handle: a members area with accounts, which this plugin doesn't aim to be.

There is a practical limitation: Gravity Forms doesn't allow the same form to be displayed several times on one page. If two blocks require the same form, only the first one shows it and the others display the message without it. Also, unique submission doesn't work with redirect mode.

Frequently asked questions about GP Submit to Access

Does it work with Elementor or other builders?

Yes, through a shortcode, which works in any editor that supports them, including Elementor and Beaver Builder.

Can I accept more than one form to unlock the same content?

Yes. You select several and the visitor only needs to submit one.

Can I use it in my own custom build?

Yes, with the gpsa_has_access filter you can apply its gating logic in custom builds.
