About Gravity Perks Expand Textareas
A pricing formula written in a three-line box
Anyone building forms with Gravity Forms ends up writing far more than questions: blocks of HTML, calculation formulas, post templates. All of it is typed into a small text box.
How Gravity Perks Expand Textareas works
Once activated, an Expand Textarea button appears right below the textareas of the HTML and Calculation fields. Clicking it opens a modal window with a much larger text area, where you read and edit the content comfortably. When you finish, you click the Insert button and the changes go back into the field.
By default the button shows up in three specific places: the HTML field content, the Calculation field formula and the content template of the Post Body field.
Two settings to fit your way of working
In Forms > Spellbook, within this perk's settings, there are two options:
- Button on all textareas: makes it appear on any textarea in the form editor, not just the usual three.
- Expand on click: the window opens by itself when you click inside the textarea, saving you a click every time. It is useful if you edit often; it can be annoying if you only want to fix a single word.
Gravity Perks Expand Textareas only enlarges the editor, not the visitor's fields
It is a comfort improvement for whoever administers the form. This list makes clear what it solves and what you will have to cover elsewhere:
- Solves: editing long content with more room in the form editor.
- Solves: opening the enlarged textarea automatically on click, if you enable that option.
- Does not cover: the size or look of the text fields visitors fill in on the site.
- Does not cover: writing the HTML or the formula for you; it only gives you a bigger place to do it.
- Does not cover: working without Gravity Forms, which it depends on entirely.
A small plugin for people who spend hours in the editor
If your forms are short and you rarely touch HTML or calculations, you will notice little.
Frequently asked questions
Where does the button appear?
Below the textareas of the HTML and Calculation fields, and in the content template of Post Body. If you enable the matching option, also on the rest of the textareas in the editor.
Does it change the form my visitors see?
No. It works only in the form editor, inside the WordPress admin.
Are my changes lost when I close the window?
To keep what you wrote you must click the Insert button, which sends the content back to the textarea.
What do I do if it does not work?
Run a conflict test: temporarily switch theme or deactivate other plugins to see whether one of them interferes.
