About Hendy – Handyman Service WordPress Theme
Nobody browses a plumber's website
It is the line that should preside over any project in this sector, and the one hardly anybody takes into account.
Whoever is looking for a handyman, an electrician or a plumber is not calmly exploring options. They have water on the floor, the electrics tripped or a jammed shutter, and they are looking at their phone standing in the hallway. They will not read your about page, will not compare three quotes and will not fill in a form.
They will do one thing: call the first one who inspires confidence within ten seconds. The whole website exists to win those ten seconds.
Hendy is a WordPress theme for plumbing, handyman, electrical, roofing, painting, maintenance and renovation services.
What it contributes
- A services company structure, with trade pages already built.
- Responsive design, essential here because practically every visit arrives from a phone.
- Several trades allowed for: plumbing, electrics, roofing, painting, repair and renovation.
The four elements that decide whether the phone rings
The number, large and tappable, on every page. On a phone the number gets tapped, not copied. A number that is not a link loses calls every day.
The service area, said explicitly. Name the neighbourhoods and towns you cover. Nobody calls to ask whether you travel: they call somebody who already says so.
The hours and whether you take emergencies. A call-out at eleven at night is the best paid job in the sector, and whoever makes that call filters on it before price.
How you charge for the call-out. Saying so beforehand avoids the argument on the doorstep, which is where reviews get lost.
A trade's search strategy is one single thing
And it is worth explaining because it changes how the site has to be built, not only how it is written.
People do not search for "plumbing services". They search for "plumber" plus their neighbourhood, or even plus their postcode. That is the search that brings work, and it is local to a degree found in no other sector.
What works, and hardly anybody does, is a page per area and trade. Not one services page listing thirty towns at the bottom, but a page of its own for each combination you genuinely work, with different content: jobs done there, arrival time, particularities of the area.
It is more work and it is what separates whoever gets calls from whoever has a good-looking website. And there is one piece that pays back more than all the pages together: the business listing in the search engine, with address, hours, photographs of jobs and reviews. In local trades, that weighs more than the website.
Requirements
It needs WordPress. Appointment booking and online quoting get solved separately, although in this sector the telephone usually beats the form.
Alternatives in the catalogue
On the same ground, FixHero covers handyman and repair work, and FixNow is focused on plumbing.
If your trade is more specific, there are themes that save layout work: Poolax for pool maintenance, FastPro for cleaning services and Electro Repair for electronics repair.
If as well as travelling to jobs you have a workshop and want to manage repairs with their status and tracking, that is not a theme but a plugin: RepairPlugin.
And if you work by fixed appointment rather than call-outs, MotoPress Appointment Booking or Amelia manage the diary with reminders, which reduce no-shows.
Frequently asked questions
What is the first thing to put up?
The phone number, large and tappable, on every page. It is this sector's conversion.
Does it work for several trades?
Yes, it allows for plumbing, electrics, roofing, painting, maintenance and renovation.
How do I get found in my neighbourhood?
With a page per area and trade, and above all a well-kept business listing in the search engine.
Do I need a contact form?
It helps, but it does not replace the phone. An emergency does not get solved through a form.
Should I publish prices?
At least the call-out charge and how you bill. It avoids doorstep arguments.
Does it include appointment booking?
Not out of the box. It gets added with a diary plugin if your work runs on fixed appointments.
