Making your directory listings buyable
A directory introduces two parties and its job ends there. The deal closes elsewhere, by phone or email, and you never see a penny of it. That is the model's natural ceiling: you charge for the listing, but not for what gets sold.
This extension breaks that ceiling. It makes each listing purchasable by joining HivePress to WooCommerce: it creates a hidden product per listing and calculates the vendor's earnings on every sale.
What a vendor can sell
- Fixed-price listings, straightforward direct sales.
- Digital downloads, through listing attachments.
- Bookable services, if you also run the Bookings extension.
On top of that you can build quantity discounts, pricing tiers and add-on fees. Each listing supports stock limits and a purchase note with order details.
Commissions
The administrator sets a default commission or a custom rate per vendor, and decides whether the seller, the buyer or both pay it. The system calculates each party's share automatically, and vendors request their payouts through the platform without you keeping the books by hand.
That flexibility matters more than it sounds: on a new marketplace it usually pays not to charge sellers until there is volume, and to be able to change that later without switching systems.
The order, start to finish
The buyer places the order with whatever details you ask for. The seller confirms delivery, attaches files and sets a revision limit. Completion can be manual or automatic.
And for when something goes wrong, which it will: the buyer can raise a dispute and the seller can issue a full or partial refund. A marketplace without that mechanism ends up settling everything by email, and that is where trust is lost.
What it combines with
WooCommerce as the payment base. The Messages extension so buyer and seller can talk, with keyword filtering. Requests, so vendors can bid. And Bookings, to sell time-based services.
What it is for and what it is not
It is built for selling **services and digital products** from directories, classifieds and listing portals. For physical products with shipping, stock and logistics, that is different territory.
