Building a directory of doctors and hospitals often ends in an almost empty list: you fill in a few listings by hand, the other professionals don't even know you exist, and the data goes stale. In this sector the one who needs to be found is the doctor or the clinic, not the patient searching. That is why a directory works when each professional can sign up, edit their own listing and get something in return.

Hospital Doctor Directory starts from that idea. Hospitals and doctors are their own content types (custom post types), so you can use whatever SEO plugin you already have with them. Each professional manages their listing from their account on the public side of the site and, in the case of doctors, you decide whether what they publish goes live straight away or waits for your approval.

What each hospital and doctor listing shows

The two listings share almost everything, with a few differences depending on the type:

• Listing content: specialties, awards, video, an image gallery and a touch slider designed for mobile.
• Link between the two: the hospital listing shows its affiliated doctors and the doctor listing shows the hospitals they are linked to. The hospital also adds events, and the doctor has a booking shortcode.
• Interaction: users can contact the listing owner, save favorites with notes and claim a listing. Owners can see who has shown interest in theirs.
• Admin control: new fields tailored to you, read and write permissions by user role, and a different map marker for each category.
• Reach: social profiles and a share button.

To find listings there is a search shortcode, a listing layout with an alphabet filter and a category filter on the archives.

Packages, coupons and charging for being listed

You can create membership packages: free account, one-time payment, recurring payment, free trial, paid trial or variable payment package. Users can upgrade, downgrade or cancel their subscription from their account, and each package can assign a different user role.

• Payments: PayPal Express Checkout and Stripe, the latter synchronized with Stripe subscription plans.
• Coupons: for signup or per package, with a usage limit and an expiry date.
• Presentation: seven pricing tables and two signup styles.
• Emails: eleven templates, including welcome, forgotten password, order, listing contact, claim and subscription reminder.
• Tracking: payment history with charts, and new registrants are saved to a Mailchimp list.

It works with WPML, Loco and Polylang if you need the directory in several languages.

Is Hospital Doctor Directory right for a paid directory?

Yes, if your plan is to charge professionals for being listed, and less so if you are after something else. It is a directory with memberships, not a patient or medical records manager. The doctor's booking shortcode exists, but check in the demo whether it covers the appointment calendar you need. Nor does it verify that a doctor is who they claim to be: checking registrations and credentials before approving listings is up to you. The page builder integration is with WPBakery.

Can I charge for adding, claiming or viewing a listing?

Yes, through the subscription packages, which support one-time, recurring or trial payments.

Can doctors publish on their own?

Yes, they add and edit their listing from their account. For doctors you can require listings to stay pending approval.
