About JetFormBuilder Select Autocomplete Addon
When the dropdown is the hardest field to fill in
A Select with many options forces people to scroll, scan by eye and pick the wrong line. And it tends to happen in the forms where a wrong choice costs the most: shipping, billing, orders or bookings.
Whoever installs this addon runs a business where the form is the cash register. The visitor has already decided and only has fields left to fill in. Text fields go quickly, but the dropdown breaks the rhythm, and almost nobody reviews it because technically it works. JetFormBuilder Select Autocomplete Addon acts on that one point only: it lets people type in the field itself and see suggestions that match what they typed.
The three settings of JetFormBuilder Select Autocomplete Addon
Once the addon is active, the JetFormBuilder Select Field block shows new settings. There are few of them, which is an advantage: there is no separate tool to learn.
- Use Autocomplete: a toggle that turns the feature on or off. When switched on, the field includes a text box to search among the options.
- Loading via AJAX: it loads the options via AJAX, so the search runs in real time and data arrives up to date from the server. It is useful in dynamic fields, whose options are generated on the frontend.
- Minimum input length: the minimum number of characters a person must type before the search runs.
Since each field has its own settings, you can enable autocomplete only where the list is long and keep the normal dropdown on fields with three options.
Three forms where you will notice it
Shipping and billing forms
Long lists are the norm here. Typing the first letters and choosing the match avoids going through the whole dropdown.
Order forms
If the Select field loads dynamic options, AJAX loading means people see current data instead of a list fixed when the page opened. For a busy site, that avoids offering something that has already changed.
Booking forms
It helps when choosing among many options in a Select field, for example a service or a location. Keep in mind that the addon makes selecting easier; it does not manage availability or a calendar.
It only works on Select fields and inside JetFormBuilder
It is a JetFormBuilder Pro addon: without that plugin it has nothing to work on. It is installed and activated from the JetFormBuilder addons panel. It also applies only to Select-type fields. It does not make text fields, address fields or any other type autocomplete. Nor does it create the options: the ones the field already has (fixed or dynamic) are the ones suggested.

Can I use it on any frontend form?
Yes, on any form built with JetFormBuilder, as long as the field is a Select.
Do I have to enable it on every Select field?
No. The Use Autocomplete toggle is on each field, so you decide one by one.
What is the minimum length for?
To set how many characters must be typed before searching.
What does AJAX loading add?
Options are requested from the server each time a search is made, which allows you to receive up-to-date data. It is especially useful if the Select is dynamic.
What to test with your longest list
Before deciding, enable autocomplete on the field with the most options in your form and check in the demo how it behaves as you type and which minimum length feels comfortable. If most of your Select fields have few options, the benefit will be small.
