About JNews - Instagram Feed
Your publication's Instagram gallery starts with the account type
Your newsroom posts photos on Instagram that never appear on the website. You decide to show them on the site, try the account the team uses, and the connection does not work. It was a personal account. You sort that out, turn on the gallery in the footer, and it does not appear either, because your footer uses another style.
In JNews, showing your Instagram depends on two decisions made outside the feed: what type of account the publication has and which footer the site uses. If both are settled, setup is short. If not, it is worth knowing before you reserve that space in the design.
JNews Instagram Feed is the built-in JNews theme plugin for bringing your Instagram posts onto the site. It is installed from the theme dashboard and its settings live inside JNews.
Three places to put the feed
- Footer: a strip of posts with configurable rows, columns and hover style.
- JNews, Horizontal Instagram: a page element to show the feed within a layout.
- JNews, Instagram Widget: a widget for the sidebar.
Each place plays a different role in a publication. The footer is tied to the site style, the horizontal element is decided per page, and the widget appears beside articles that have a sidebar. For the element or the widget to show anything, the account must be connected first.
Seven options in Instagram Feed Setting
- Enable Instagram Feed: you choose where it shows, or Hide to turn it off.
- Number of Rows: feed rows, for the footer only.
- Number of Columns: columns of the footer feed.
- Sort Feed Type: the order of the posts.
- Hover Style: the hover effect on the footer feed.
- Follow Button Text: the follow button label. If you leave it blank, the button disappears.
- Open New Tab: opens the feed or button link in a new tab.
The follow button deserves a deliberate decision. With the field blank, it does not appear. With a label, it invites the reader to follow you, and the new tab option lets you keep the publication's page open.
Two conditions you must meet
The account must be a business account. It accepts only Instagram business accounts: personal ones do not work. If your publication posts from a personal profile, that change is made on Instagram, not in WordPress.
The footer feed requires Footer Style 5 or 6. With any other footer style, that placement is not compatible. If you do not want to change the footer, you still have the horizontal element and the widget.
Among this plugin's settings there are no hashtag or Reels feeds. Its job is to show in JNews what the connected account posts.
From connected account to visible feed
- Install and activate JNews, Instagram Feed from the JNews Dashboard, in the Plugin section.
- Log in to Instagram in your browser, with the publication's business account.
- Open JNews Dashboard, Customize Style, JNews: Social, Like & View, Instagram Feed Setting.
- Connect the account with the link shown and follow the instructions on the next page.
- Choose where to show the feed. If it will be the footer, confirm you use Footer Style 5 or 6.
- Adjust rows, columns, order and button, and review the result on desktop and mobile.
When the feed must go beyond your account
To work with hashtags, Reels or posts you were tagged in, Instagram Feed Pro by Smash Balloon offers those feed types, grid, carousel and masonry designs, and goes in with a block, widget or shortcode. It does not depend on JNews.
The base of it all is the JNews theme.
