About LatePoint Addon - Payments Paypal
Who pays and how is decided by PayPal, not by your booking form
Your site says you accept cards, a client reaches the last booking step and only sees the option to log in to their PayPal account. Or the reverse: someone books a session and a deferred payment button appears that you never meant to offer. Both can happen with LatePoint set up correctly.
With the LatePoint PayPal add-on, the client sees PayPal as a payment option during booking. Everything else depends on three things that are not on your dashboard: your account setup, your business country and each client's eligibility. Depending on that combination, PayPal may also offer Pay Later and debit or credit card payments.
The practical consequence is simple: do not promise a payment method on your site before you have seen it in your own form, and from the country you will be charging in. You only choose the country, the currency and whether to switch Pay Later off. PayPal sorts out the rest on every booking.
PayPal Checkout, connection and refunds in LatePoint
- PayPal Checkout as a payment processor inside LatePoint, enabled from the payment settings.
- Connection by login: you sign in to your PayPal Business account and authorise LatePoint, with no credentials to copy by hand.
- Two environments: Live for real payments and Dev, which uses PayPal Sandbox for rehearsal.
- Connection status in view: Connected with your Merchant ID, or Pending Action if PayPal asks for more verification.
- Refunds and webhooks, added in version 2.1.0.
When to switch Pay Later off
Disable Pay Later hides that option at checkout when it is available. It deserves a conscious decision, because it changes what the client sees right before confirming the appointment.
Leave it on if you want that button to stay in view whenever PayPal offers it. Switch it off if you prefer a shorter payment step with fewer options.
LatePoint, PayPal Business and fees come separately
It does not work without LatePoint. It is an add-on: the form, the services and the calendar come from the base plugin.
It needs a PayPal Business account. That is the account you connect in the process. If PayPal needs something verified, the status stays at Pending Action and the instructions come from PayPal, not from LatePoint.
It does not replace other gateways. Stripe, Square, Razorpay and Flutterwave have their own add-on entries in LatePoint. Anyone also charging through Stripe needs that separate piece.
It does not avoid fees. PayPal applies them on each transaction: the money from each appointment reaches you with that deduction, and it is worth including it when pricing your services.
How to get it charging, from Dev to Live
Before starting you need LatePoint installed, the add-on active and your PayPal Business account at hand. These are the steps:
- Go to LatePoint, then Settings and Payments, and enable PayPal Checkout.
- Choose the Dev environment and click Start Connecting.
- Log in to PayPal, authorise LatePoint and return to your site. Connected should appear with your Merchant ID.
- Fill in your business country and currency, and decide on Disable Pay Later.
- Make a complete test booking on your own form.
- Switch to Live, repeat the connection and watch the first real booking.
Other ways to charge for appointments in the catalog
The starting point is LatePoint, with a step-by-step booking form and deposits at booking. For the advanced features there is LatePoint PRO Features, and if you work by video call, Zoom Meetings for LatePoint creates the Zoom meeting for each appointment.
If your calendar runs on Bookly instead of LatePoint, the equivalent piece is Bookly PayPal Payments Standard. This add-on does not work for that calendar.
Questions before connecting PayPal to LatePoint
Will my clients be able to pay by card?
They may. PayPal offers debit or credit cards depending on your account, your country and the client's eligibility. Check it on your form.
Do I have to create API keys?
Not with the current method: you connect with Start Connecting and a login. API keys belong to a legacy procedure.
Can I test without charging real money?
Yes. The Dev environment uses PayPal Sandbox and is the recommended step before switching to Live.
Can payments be refunded?
Yes, the add-on supports refunds since version 2.1.0, along with webhooks.
