About Login as Customer or User Pro

Your customer sees something you can't see from the dashboard

A customer writes that they can't find their order, that a button doesn't show up, or that their account panel looks odd. You open the site as an administrator and everything works. You end up asking for screenshots, guessing and repeating questions.

In a shop, almost everything that fails is specific to one account: their orders, their data, what their role lets them see. The administrator view hides exactly that. Login as Customer or User Pro adds a button to enter that account and look through the customer's eyes, without asking for their password.

From the problem order to the customer's account, step by step

A typical case: a customer tells you she doesn't understand how the details of her purchase look.

  • Find the order. On the WooCommerce orders page, next to each customer, there is a button to log in as that user.
  • Enter their account. With one click you browse their panel just as she sees it: layout, sections and flows.
  • Check the details. The order details page also has the button, so you can look at the problem from her perspective.
  • Get back to your work. You don't need to log out and log back in to move from one account to another.

If the user hasn't bought anything or you don't use WooCommerce, the button is still on the users list in the dashboard and at the top of each user's profile. The buttons on the orders page, however, only exist if you have WooCommerce.

The plugin does one thing: switch accounts. It shows you what the customer sees, but it doesn't diagnose or fix the fault; that is still up to you.

Questions about logging in to other people's accounts

Do I need to know the user's password?

No. That is the whole point of the plugin: you log in from the button, no passwords.

Does it work without WooCommerce?

Yes for the users list and the profile. The buttons next to orders and on the order details page need WooCommerce.

Do I have to log out to get back to my account?

Not to switch from one account to another, that is the flow the plugin avoids. Still, take your time while testing: you are inside a real account.

Is it a problem to log in to customer accounts?

You are viewing another person's personal data, so use it only to handle incidents and limit who can do it.

Decide who sees the button before giving anyone access

Setup is short: you activate the plugin and choose who can see the login-as-user button and where you want to see it. There are no other settings to learn, but that choice matters. If your team has content, logistics and customer service people, it makes sense for only the latter (and whoever administers the shop) to have the button. The fewer people who can enter customer accounts, the fewer explanations you will owe if a customer asks who looked at their account.
