About MainWP iThemes Security Extension

When every site has its security set up its own way

Logging into your clients' dashboards one by one to check security almost always ends the same way: some sites with brute force protection on, others half configured, and one nobody has touched since it was built. At an agency, the site that ends up compromised is rarely the most important one: it is the one left with a different configuration because nobody looked at it again. MainWP iThemes Security Extension brings iThemes Security into the MainWP dashboard so you can configure and monitor all your sites from a single place.

Update, activate and adjust iThemes Security across your whole network

The extension lets you manage the security plugin on your child sites without opening them one by one:

  • Update, activate and deactivate iThemes Security across your whole network at once.
  • Apply settings globally or fine-tune them on a specific site, useful when a client needs different rules.
  • Work with the plugin's usual options: global settings, 404 detection, away mode, banned users, brute force protection, database backups, file change detection, hiding the login area, malware scanning, SSL, strong passwords, system and WordPress tweaks, administrator user management and database prefix.

The value is not each option, which already exists in the plugin, but being able to repeat the same configuration on every site without relying on memory.

A widget that shows you the active lockouts

The extension adds a security overview widget to the dashboard of each child site. There you see the general status and the active lockouts, which is exactly what you need when a client writes saying they cannot log in to their site. Before checking passwords or hosting, see whether their access is blocked by the plugin itself.

Only the free features of iThemes Security work

This extension is a bridge, not a security system on its own. Here is how the work is split:

  • The extension handles: managing the plugin on all sites, applying global or individual settings and seeing the status and lockouts in the widget.
  • You handle: installing iThemes Security on each child site, because the extension needs it there to work.
  • You handle: having MainWP installed as your main dashboard, since the extension is one of its add-ons.
  • You handle: any paid iThemes Security feature, since it works with the free or Pro version of the plugin but only supports its free features.
  • You handle: deciding what level of protection each client needs. The extension applies what you tell it to, it does not decide for you.

Frequently asked questions about MainWP iThemes Security Extension

Do I need to install iThemes Security on every site?

Yes. The extension manages the plugin, but it must be installed on each child site you control from MainWP.

Can I change settings for just one site?

Yes. You can apply changes to all sites or modify only one.

Does it work if I use the Pro version of iThemes Security?

It works with it, but only the free features are managed. Everything else is configured on the site itself.

Is it for someone with a single site?

It adds little. Its purpose is managing several sites from MainWP; with just one, the plugin can already be handled directly.
