About WPMU DEV Snapshot Pro
A backup on the same server as your site goes down with your site
Almost nobody thinks about backups until the day the site won't load. And that day the same two problems show up: the backup was stored on the very server that failed, or it exists but nobody has ever tried restoring it. Anyone who maintains client websites knows this well: the client doesn't ask for a backup, they ask for the site to come back.
Snapshot Pro, by WPMU DEV, is a backup and restore plugin built for exactly that: schedule backups once, send them off the server and recover only the part you need.
Snapshot Pro backs up what matters, stores it elsewhere and restores in parts
What matters most day to day:
- Scheduled backups: you set them up once and they run on their own.
- Incremental backups: they save storage space.
- Exclusion rules: you can leave out files, folders or database tables.
- Pre-backup inspection: before starting it checks server resources and large files.
- Selective restore: you can recover only the database or only the files, and download and restore them separately.
Backups can go to WPMU DEV cloud storage (with servers in the USA or Europe, your choice) or to your own destination: Amazon S3, Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, Azure, Linode or FTP/SFTP. You can restore from the cloud, from a local copy or via FTP. Backups are kept for up to 50 days.
One site or fifty: the same configuration, replicated
If you manage several sites, repeating settings one by one is where mistakes creep in. With Snapshot configs you can apply your preferred settings across multiple sites, and the plugin can also be managed from the WPMU DEV Hub.
On multisite networks you can back up and restore the whole network, or recover a single subsite without touching the rest. There are also detailed action logs, email notifications and white label support.
Decide whether Snapshot Pro fits the way you work
Snapshot Pro is a backup and restore tool, not a security tool: it won't stop you from being hacked, it only lets you go back. Nor is it a migration plugin. Centralized management of many sites goes through the WPMU DEV Hub, so if you won't use it, part of that workflow won't apply to you. Retention goes up to 50 days, so if you need longer histories you should export backups or send them to a destination of your own. Before relying on it, run a test restore on a staging site.
Can I store backups in my own Google Drive or S3?
Yes. It supports Amazon S3, Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, Azure, Linode and FTP/SFTP, as well as WPMU DEV storage.
Can I restore only the database?
Yes. You can restore only the database or only the files, and download them separately.
Does it work with multisite?
Yes. You can back up and restore a whole network or recover an individual subsite.
