About MainWP Jetpack Protect Extension

Twenty sites, twenty outdated plugins and no overall view

When you manage client websites, security rarely fails because of a sophisticated attack: it fails because nobody notices that a plugin installed on site number 14 has a published vulnerability. Checking site by site does not scale, and your client is not going to warn you. MainWP Jetpack Protect Extension brings those alerts into the MainWP dashboard, where you already manage everything else.

The key point: the business of maintaining other people's websites is measured by what does not happen. Nobody thanks you for the hack you prevented, but they will hold you responsible for the one you missed. Having a single place to see which site has which problem turns monitoring into a routine instead of a worry.

What you see in the MainWP dashboard with this extension

Once activated, a widget appears on the MainWP Overview page with a summary of the Jetpack Protect scan results. It lets you assess the security status of your sites at a glance and dive into what was detected.

  • Count per site: in the WP, Plugins and Themes columns you see how many threats or vulnerabilities each Child Site has in the core, plugins and themes.
  • Detail on click: clicking those numbers gives you information about each vulnerability and guidance on how to resolve it.
  • Vulnerability database: the scan relies on WPScan, which covers the WordPress core, plugins and themes.

How it fits depending on how you work

Agency with a maintenance portfolio

This is the main use case. You open the dashboard in the morning, look at which sites have non-zero numbers and prioritize. Scans run automatically every 24 hours, so you do not have to launch anything by hand.

Freelancer with a few clients

If you only look after five or six sites, the gain is smaller, but it is still useful if you already use MainWP: you avoid opening each admin area to check alerts.

Anyone running several MainWP dashboards

The extension can be used on any number of MainWP Dashboards you manage, which helps if you separate clients or teams across different installations.

It needs the Jetpack Protect plugin on every child site

The extension does not scan anything by itself: it requires the Jetpack Protect plugin to be installed on each Child Site. You will only see data for sites where it is active.

It does not fix anything automatically either. It tells you what is affected and guides you to the solution, usually updating the plugin or theme to a safe version. And mind the timing: after fixing a vulnerability, the extension may take up to a day to reflect the change, because it depends on the next scan.
