About MainWP SSL Monitor Extension
Your client finds out about an expired certificate before you do
With ten, thirty or a hundred WordPress sites, SSL certificates never expire at the same time: each one was issued on a different date, sometimes with a different host, and automatic renewal can fail silently on exactly the site nobody is watching. The red browser warning usually reaches visitors before any warning reaches you. MainWP SSL Monitor Extension is there to change that order: it warns you first.
It is a MainWP extension, so it works from the Dashboard you already use to manage your sites and with the MainWP Child plugin those sites have installed. You don't need to add any other plugin to each website.
Automatic checks at the frequency you choose
You decide how often MainWP checks the certificate status of your child sites, and the extension does the work without you opening each website one by one. You also choose how far in advance you want the email alert before an expiry. That margin matters more than it seems: if the client has to approve the expense or the provider is slow, you need weeks, not hours.
When you can't wait for the next scheduled check, there is the manual check: with a single action you verify the SSL status of all your sites at once.
A column in Manage Sites and a history for when you doubt
When you activate the extension, the SSL Status column appears on the Manage Sites screen. It lets you review the whole portfolio at a glance and spot which sites need attention without entering each one.
The extension also keeps a log of your sites' certificate status. You can view it on the extension's Dashboard, and it helps you see whether a problem is one-off or keeps recurring on the same site.
Global settings with per-site exceptions
Global settings work for most sites, but there is always one that is different: a testing environment, a website that doesn't need monitoring, or a client you want to warn with more margin. From each site's overview page you can change the global configuration for that site only, or turn off its monitoring without affecting the others.
Renewing the certificate is still your job
MainWP SSL Monitor Extension watches and warns, it doesn't act on the certificate. Here is how the work is split:
- The extension handles it: email alerts with the advance notice you configure.
- The extension handles it: automatic checks at the chosen frequency and a manual check of all sites.
- The extension handles it: status visible in Manage Sites and a history on its Dashboard.
- You cover it: renewing or installing the certificate, at the host or with your provider.
- You cover it: any alert channel other than email, which is the notification method it offers.
- You cover it: having MainWP Dashboard and MainWP Child on the sites, because the extension doesn't work on its own.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to install anything else on the sites I want to monitor?
Nothing beyond MainWP Child, which should already be installed so you can manage them from your Dashboard.
Can I choose how far in advance it warns me?
Yes. The notification timeframe is set in the extension's settings.
Can I exclude a site from monitoring?
Yes. From that site's overview page you can turn off the SSL monitor without touching the others.
Is there a record of how each certificate was doing?
Yes, the extension keeps a history of your sites' SSL status that you can view on its Dashboard.
