About Memberpress Corporate Accounts

Whoever buys for their team ends up administering your users

A company buys twenty seats. Its manager mistypes a username, and that username can no longer be changed. Another employee already had an account on your site, but the form does not accept their email. A third is inside another corporate account and cannot be moved. Who does that person write to? You.

When you sell to a group, you gain a sale and also an untrained administrator working on your users. What decides whether this model saves you work or multiplies it is how much you explain to them on day one.

MemberPress Corporate Accounts turns a membership into a corporate account: one member pays and adds sub-accounts, up to the number you set, at no additional charge. It works for companies, families, churches or any group.

What the holder does, and what you keep

  • Sees their allowance with a counter of sub-accounts used, on a link inside the subscriptions tab.
  • Adds new users with a username and email.
  • Adds existing users by their username.
  • Shares a signup URL they can send to anyone.
  • Exports the list of sub-accounts as CSV.

Sub-accounts do not get access to the holder's account or billing information. Which content they see is worth checking on a test install, especially if the holder has several memberships.

Three ways in, and which one suits each customer

The signup URL lets each person type their own details. The link shows the registration form, not an add-to-cart button.

CSV import fits when the list already exists. The holder can upload up to 200 entries per file, with four columns: username, email, first_name and last_name. During the import they can send new members a link to set their password and the welcome email.

Manual entry is for one-off cases. This is where the opening warning matters: a username cannot be changed once submitted.

What you keep, as the admin:

  • Change the maximum sub-accounts of a specific user.
  • Revoke corporate access by unchecking the option. Their sub-accounts lose access.
  • Change the holder: the future holder is first added as a sub-account, then "Make Parent" is used on their line.
  • Find relationships: the Corp Type column in Members shows Corp Account, Sub Account or None, and in non-recurring subscriptions the Parent column points to the holder.

Before putting it on sale

The allowance lives in the membership. If you want to offer teams of 10 and of 50, those are two memberships, each with its own limit. The admin can later adjust the limit for a specific user.

It only applies to membership products. The corporate option is not available for any other product type.

Check what happens on exit. Revoking corporate access by hand leaves the sub-accounts without access. What happens when the holder cancels or stops paying is worth seeing on a test install before selling it, because what you promise your customers depends on it.

Requirements and a first corporate account

You need MemberPress and the MemberPress Importer add-on, as well as this one. To get started:

  1. Install the add-on from MemberPress, Add-Ons.
  2. In the membership's Advanced tab, mark it as corporate and set the sub-account limit.
  3. Add the {$subaccounts_url} variable to that membership's own welcome email, so the holder receives their management link.
  4. Add one sub-account through each route you plan to offer and log in with it.
  5. Write a short guide for your customers with these username rules.

Other ways to sell access to a group

MemberPress is the base of this add-on, and MemberPress Importer is the other requirement. With MemberPress Courses, from version 1.1.6 you can allow holders to see the progress and quiz scores of their sub-accounts.

Outside MemberPress, Paid Memberships Pro Group Accounts takes the same approach with a parent account that chooses seats at checkout.

Questions from anyone about to sell seats

Does each sub-account pay separately?

No. The holder adds the set number of sub-accounts at no additional charge.

Can the holder add someone who already has an account?

Yes, with their username. The form does not accept email.

Do sub-accounts see the holder's billing?

No. Their access excludes the holder's account and billing information.

How many sub-accounts can be imported?

The holder, up to 200 per file. The admin does not have that limit.
