Whoever runs a screening series needs the public to find the program and buy a pass. A video agency wants something very different: for a client to see its work and get in touch. And an independent filmmaker wants their name remembered. If all three start from the same introduction page, two of them are asking for the wrong action.

On a film website, the front page is chosen by what you want the visitor to do, and not by the effect you like most. Mirel, by ypromo (Promo Theme), is a WordPress theme for studios, filmmakers, agencies, festivals and cinemas. It comes with 10 home page variants, including studio, filmmaker, agency and festival, on top of one video portfolio.

Front pages with different jobs

The demo's front pages include Movie Studio, Personal Filmmaker, Film Agency, Interactive Links, Film Festival/Premiere, Production Studio, Personal Portfolio, Showcase Slider and Parallax Slider. Three of them show the difference well:

• Movie Studio: slides with video buttons, a services block, a productions grid, team, a testimonial and logos.
• Film Agency: slides with a sound toggle, a services list with a contact button, nine recent projects, numbered services and team.
• Film Festival/Premiere: featured films, a nominated film with a trailer link, a four-day schedule with times and halls, a filterable program, festival partners and a PDF link.

In that page's schedule, each screening carries a link to buy a ticket. Decide where it points before publishing: to a WooCommerce product or to your ticketing service. Test the purchase path with your own program.

How each work is presented

• Portfolio listings in grid, masonry and slider form, with unlimited custom portfolio pages.
• Five project models in the demo: fullscreen video, Packery, horizontal, three-column grid and advanced masonry.
• Video from YouTube, Vimeo and MP4.
• Project details such as client, videographer and date, along with a like counter and share buttons.
• Photo galleries in grid and masonry form, to show stills and shoots.

On one of the demo's project pages, several images carry a play button, some opening YouTube and others an MP4 file. It works as a model for combining an externally hosted trailer with a clip of your own. If you upload MP4 files to your hosting, storage and traffic run through your server.

A showcase for your work, not an online cinema

Mirel shows films and captures contacts. Its features include no subscriptions, pay-per-view or members area, so it is not the base for a streaming platform.

The shop relies on WooCommerce, which is compatible with the theme. The demo includes shop, account, cart and checkout pages, with audiovisual-themed items. It is not optimized for Gutenberg either, and its visual work goes through Elementor or Elementor Pro, with which it is compatible.

Choosing the front page and publishing the first project

The plugins and demo content are included, Contact Form 7 among them. For a multilingual site, the theme is compatible with WPML. It is worth following this order:

1. Decide what the visitor should do: buy a pass, write to you or watch your work.
2. Install the theme and its plugins, and import the demo content.
3. Keep only the front page that matches that action.
4. Create a real project with its video, client, videographer and date.
5. Adjust the colors and test the site on a phone.

Frames and more themes for studios and filmmakers

If your catalog calls for records of works and people, Frames adds the Videos and People content types to WordPress, with front pages for studio, director and actor. Filmic and Noxe are other themes for movie studios and filmmakers.
