About MonsterInsights - Exceptions Addon
Finding out about a conversion drop a week late gets expensive
Opening Google Analytics every morning to check that nothing has broken is a routine almost nobody keeps up. You stop looking, and one day you discover the form had gone days without converting or a campaign had collapsed. MonsterInsights - Exceptions Addon watches 16 metrics on your site for you and alerts you when it detects a sudden change.
It is a MonsterInsights add-on: it does not work on its own, it needs the base plugin installed.
16 metrics watched without opening a single report
The addon monitors, among others, traffic volume, conversion rate, transactions, engagement rate, bounce rate, campaign performance and revenue. The difference from a normal report is the approach: instead of you hunting for what is going wrong, the system only interrupts you when something does not add up. You can also view each exception with date comparisons, to tell a one-off dip from a longer trend before you react.
Dashboard, site notes or email: you choose how the alert reaches you
Each exception can notify you in three ways, and you turn each one on or off separately:
- Notifications in the WordPress dashboard: they are waiting for you when you log in.
- Site notes: the exception is logged with its date, like a diary of important changes.
- Email: sent to the address you choose, which can be yours or your client's.
That way, a developer can keep only the notes for documentation, and the owner of a small site can keep only the email.
A history of anomalies you can take into a spreadsheet
Every exception is stored in its own report, not flagged and forgotten. By reviewing it over time you can see what triggered the alerts and whether a pattern repeats over weeks or months. If you need to show it to a client or analyze it more calmly, the full log exports to CSV.
If you run several sites, you see them all in one place
For agencies and consultants, checking every site in the portfolio by hand does not scale. The addon gathers the alerts from connected sites in a single place, so you know which ones have flagged something unusual without entering each Google Analytics account.
Emails arrive the next day, not in the moment
- What it already solves: detecting sudden changes in 16 metrics, alerting by dashboard, notes and email, keeping the history and exporting it.
- What you will cover yourself: emails are processed and sent the following day, so it does not work as a live downtime alarm; for that you need a separate uptime monitoring tool.
- What you will cover yourself: the addon tells you something changed, not why. Finding the cause (a campaign, a broken plugin, a price change) is still work for you or a professional.
- What it is not: an alert system, not a tracking filter. If you want to exclude user roles or specific pages from your statistics, this is not that feature.
Questions from people activating it for the first time
Do I need to configure anything for it to start monitoring?
No. Monitoring starts when you activate the addon. Optionally, you can adjust the email recipient and the active channels in the Insights advanced settings.
Can I get only the email and not the dashboard notifications?
Yes. Email, site notes and in-app notifications can each be turned on or off on their own.
Does it work without the main plugin?
No. It is a MonsterInsights add-on and depends on it.
