About MonsterInsights Pro + Addons
The January question needs data that started in March
Year end arrives and you want to know which author drew the most visits, which form brought contacts or which coupon moved sales. You open the reports and that answer is not there, because nobody asked for it to be kept.
Analytics has no past: what you do not start measuring today will not exist in next year's report. Google Analytics works with what it receives. A user property, for example, does not apply to events before it was set.
That is why MonsterInsights Pro and its addons are best seen as a decision made in advance. The plugin connects WordPress to Google Analytics and brings the data into the dashboard, without writing code.
What MonsterInsights Pro starts recording
- Ecommerce: WooCommerce, Easy Digital Downloads, MemberPress, MemberMouse, GiveWP, LifterLMS and Restrict Content Pro.
- Forms: impressions and conversions on WPForms, Gravity Forms, Formidable Forms, Contact Form 7, Ninja Forms, Elementor Forms and Divi Forms.
- Content and dimensions: author, category and tag, custom post type, SEO score, focus keyword and publish time.
- Ads: Google Ads, Microsoft Ads, Meta Ads, TikTok Ads, Pinterest Ads, LinkedIn Ads and Snapchat Ads.
- Customer journey: which pages each buyer visited and how long they spent there before purchasing.
The answers that data lets you give
Which form converts and which gets in the way? The form conversion report brings together impressions and conversions, with their traffic source and campaign.
Which coupons work? That is what the coupons report is for, next to the ecommerce report with revenue, conversion rate, average order value, top products and referral sources.
Which content performs? There are metrics for best publishing times and popular content types, plus the custom dimensions report by author, date, category, tag and keyword.
What did the buyer do before paying? User journeys show each customer's pages up to the purchase.
The EU Compliance addon anonymizes IP addresses in what is sent to Google Analytics and integrates automatically with CookieBot, Cookie Notice, CookieYes and Complianz.
What MonsterInsights Pro does not replace
- Google Analytics. The plugin connects and presents the data, so a Google account is needed.
- History that was never sent. Turning on a measurement today does not fill in earlier months.
- Elite tier features. Exception reports, site notes automations and UserFeedback heatmaps belong to that tier.
One detail that confuses people on the first test: the Administrator and Editor roles are excluded from tracking by default, so your own logged-in visits do not appear.
Requirements and first steps with MonsterInsights
It needs WordPress, a modern browser for the admin and a Google account. On WordPress.com it only works on the Business plan.
- Follow the setup wizard and connect your Google account.
- Open Insights > Reports and check that data is arriving.
- Review under Insights > Settings, Advanced tab, which roles are left out.
- Turn on the addons for what you will want to look up a year from now.
- Make a test sale or form submission with a user who is not excluded.

Questions before turning on MonsterInsights Pro
Does it work without a Google account?
No. The wizard connects the site to Google Analytics through that account.
Does turning on an addon recover old data?
No. What was not sent before will not appear.
Why do my own visits not appear?
The Administrator and Editor roles are excluded from tracking by default. You can change that under Insights > Settings, Advanced tab.
