A magazine homepage with few stories looks abandoned
Building an online news outlet usually starts with design and gets stuck on the same thing: a homepage with three posts and no images, empty categories and the look of a half-finished site. A news site is the opposite of a corporate page: it only looks good if articles keep coming, each with its own photo. The NEWSmaker theme shows the latest and the featured stories on the homepage.
NEWSmaker splits the homepage into news blocks
The demo shows the homepage as a sequence of named blocks:
- Latest news and Top news: two blocks with category filters (business, culture, fashion, food, lifestyle, music, technology, traveling).
- Featured news, Daily news and More news: three more homepage blocks.
- Numbered pagination: the archive is browsed page by page, useful once the outlet has built up a back catalogue.
The top menu links to the outlet's sections, and the search is always within reach. For a reader arriving from Google at a single story, that decides whether they stay to read another.
Seven headers, three footers and three ways to list the blog
The demo menu lets you see the variants before deciding: seven header styles, three footer styles and three post listing layouts (list, grid and masonry). There is also a typography page: look at it to check how headlines, quotes and long texts look before you publish.
The demo includes classic news site modules: categories with post counts, recent posts, recent comments, social media links and a newsletter subscription form. The demo also shows a login and sign-up access.
Is NEWSmaker what your outlet needs, or just its storefront?
It is a theme: it provides the form, not the content. If you will publish little or without images, the homepage blocks will stay empty and the design will lose its appeal. Keep in mind too that a subscription form only collects addresses: sending the newsletters depends on a separate email tool. The same goes for user registration: check in the demo whether it covers what you want before planning a reader community.
Is it suitable for a personal blog?
Yes, if your blog has several categories and you publish regularly. For a blog with only a few posts, a simpler theme will look better.
Can I choose how the header and footer look?
The demo offers seven header variants and three footer variants, so you have plenty to choose from. See which one fits the length of your menu.
Is it suitable for an online version of a print magazine?
Yes, it is the natural use case: categories for sections, a homepage with featured stories and a paginated archive. You will need the photos for each article ready.
Does it include the demo articles?
The texts and photos you see in the demo are examples. You will have to provide your own content and images.
