About OceanWP Footer Callout
Whoever reaches the bottom of the page has already read, and the footer says nothing to them
On many sites the visitor scrolls through the page, compares, reads, and ends up at a copyright line and four legal links. That is exactly where you lose the person who showed the most interest. OceanWP Footer Callout reserves a strip in the footer for a message and a button, and lets you change it depending on the page the visitor is on.
That is the point worth taking advantage of: someone who scrolls all the way down has already read the content, so what works best is a closing message that continues what they just saw (an invitation to request a quote on a services page, a different one on a blog post) and not the same slogan repeated across the whole site.
What you can change on each page and what depends on OceanWP
This is an extension designed for the OceanWP theme, not a standalone plugin that works with any theme. Within that framework, these are its features:
- Show or hide the callout on any page or post, so it does not appear where it gets in the way (a contact page, for example).
- Edit the button text and URL on each page or post, so each piece of content leads to its own destination.
- Display the content of a page inside the callout, useful if you prefer to write the message like a normal page.
- Enable or disable the button, in case you only want a message on some pages.
- Adjust the top and bottom padding and the color of the strip.
- Its own typography for the text and the button, and a field for custom button classes. With that class you can open a modal window with Ocean Modal Windows, although that extension is a separate one and you need to have it on its own.
- Choose a template from My Library in the theme panel as the callout content.
- Enable or disable it from a child theme through a function, designed for those who work with code.
What it does not do: it is a single strip with one message and one button. It does not create several rotating banners, does not schedule when it appears, and does not track clicks on its own. If you need statistics, you will have to measure them with your usual analytics tool.
Frequently asked questions before installing it
Does it work with any theme?
It is built for OceanWP. If you use another theme, it is not the right option.
Can I put a different message on each page?
Yes. The text and the button URL are edited on each page or post, and you can also hide the callout on those that do not need it.
Can I use it to open a form in a pop-up window?
You can add custom classes to the button and combine it with Ocean Modal Windows, which is a different extension that you must have installed.
Can I use a design made with a page builder?
You can display the content of a page or choose a template from My Library. Check on your site how the template you pick looks inside the strip.
A short message, one button and a color that does not clash
Since the strip takes up the last stretch of the screen, it works best with one sentence and a single action. If you use the content of a full page, the footer can grow more than is reasonable and push down the links people look for there. The top and bottom padding and the color help the strip stand out from the rest of the footer without looking like a pasted-in ad.
General settings live in the Customizer, and per-page settings live on the page itself
It helps to keep the two levels separate. In the WordPress Customizer you define the common look: typography, button classes, padding and color. Then, on each page or post, you decide whether the callout shows, what it says and where the button leads. Start by setting the general style and then review your five or six most visited pages to write a message of their own; the rest can inherit a generic one or go without a callout.
