About OceanWP White Label

You hand a website over to a client and the first time they open the dashboard they see the theme name, the author, a screenshot with someone else's brand and a news widget from a third party. For an agency that wants the admin to feel like its own, those details undercut the work. OceanWP White Label exists for exactly that moment.

Handing over the site without another brand in the admin

Think about what a real handover looks like. This plugin adds a box to the OceanWP Theme Panel from which you change what the client will see. Its value is that the person receiving the site rarely asks which theme it runs on: what they notice is what appears in their dashboard. If what they see there is your studio's name, the result feels like consistent work of your own.

Step by step: what you change with OceanWP White Label

  • Theme name: you replace OceanWP with your brand name in the admin pages.
  • Author and author URL: you put your studio and your website where the manufacturer used to appear.
  • Description: you write your own text for the theme.
  • Screenshot: you upload your own image so the theme card doesn't show the original.
  • White Label box: once you are done, you can hide it from the Theme Panel.

One detail is worth keeping in mind: the plugin changes what is displayed, it does not replace the theme. You are still working with OceanWP underneath, so you need it installed and active.

Cleaning up the dashboard too

The name change is the main thing, but the dashboard holds more traces of the manufacturer. The plugin includes options to hide the OceanWP news and updates widget in the dashboard and the sidebar in the Theme Panel. It can also hide the Themes section in the customizer, for a practical reason: the theme name can't be edited there, so the cleanest option is to hide it.

What you won't get with this plugin

It is not a complete white label for everything around the theme. It doesn't promise to rewrite other texts, change the look of the public site or touch other plugins. If your client uses paid OceanWP extensions, their brand may still appear on their own screens: after activating it, go through every dashboard menu as an administrator before the handover.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work without OceanWP?

It makes no sense without it: the plugin adds its option to the OceanWP Theme Panel and its purpose is to replace the name of that theme.

If I switch themes, does the fake name stay?

That was a bug and it has been fixed: the name stopped being changed when another theme was activated. Even so, test it in a staging environment if you are going to switch themes.

Can I hide the settings themselves?

Yes, there is an option to remove the White Label box from the Theme Panel. Save your values first, because you won't see it there afterwards.

Does it let me sell the theme as my own?

That is not its purpose: it changes how the theme is presented in a site's admin. What you do with that presentation is up to you and your client.
