About Point of Sale System for WooCommerce (POS Plugin)

The shop and the website sell the same item, and there is only one

Anybody with a premises and a website knows this problem by heart. The last pair of size 42 trainers sells over the counter at eleven in the morning, and the website keeps advertising it until somebody remembers to deduct it. That somebody, one day, does not remember.

A point of sale system connected to WooCommerce solves it directly: the counter and the online shop share the same inventory, so every sale deducts in both places at once.

This plugin adds that layer to WooCommerce, with a sales screen for the counter and the ability to assign a shop agent to each premises to handle its sales and its customers.

What it contributes

  • A counter sales screen, separate from the WordPress admin and designed for speed.
  • Shared inventory between the physical shop and the online shop.
  • Per-premises management, with an assigned agent handling that shop's sales and customers.
  • Unified customers, so whoever buys at the counter and whoever buys online is the same record.

What to check before deciding

The hardware. A real point of sale needs a barcode scanner, a receipt printer and sometimes a cash drawer and card terminal. Each model behaves differently with a system running inside a browser, and this does not get resolved by reading the product page: it has to be tested with the equipment you will actually use. It is the number one reason a point of sale project gets stuck.

What happens if the internet drops. A browser-based system depends on the connection. In a physical shop that means a line outage is a stopped counter, with the queue waiting. Worth asking about offline operation before buying, and always having a paper fallback.

Speed at the till. A shop assistant performs the same operation two hundred times a day. One extra second per sale is over three minutes of daily queueing. The honest test is not that it works: it is timing a complete sale with the scanner in hand.

Requirements

It needs WordPress and WooCommerce, and a stable connection at the premises.

And a warning that is easy to overlook and expensive to miss: invoicing at a counter is regulated. In several countries the software issuing receipts and invoices has to meet concrete requirements on unalterable records, numbering and retention, and uncertified software can bring penalties on the shop, not on the plugin's maker. Before replacing the till, worth confirming with your accountant, because the rules vary by country and change often.

Alternatives in the catalogue

The most used option in the catalogue is Vitepos Pro, and MultiPOS is designed from the start for several shops with several assistants, which is the case where the difference shows most.

On the OpenPOS side, OpenPOS is the base and the TeraWallet integration adds the customer wallet, which is what you need if you work with balances, prepayment or a loyalty card.

Worth trying two before marrying one. On a point of sale the difference is not in the feature list, it is in how many clicks it takes to charge.

Frequently asked questions

Does it share inventory with the online shop?
Yes, that is its main purpose: a single stock figure for the counter and for the website.

Can there be several premises?
Yes, with an agent assigned to each shop who handles its sales and customers.

Does it work without internet?
That depends on the system and is worth confirming before buying. An outage stops the counter.

Will any receipt printer do?
Not always. It has to be tested with the specific equipment before committing.

Does it replace the till?
Functionally yes, but issuing receipts is regulated and worth confirming with your accountant.

Does the counter customer get recorded?
Yes, and that is the underlying advantage: one history per customer wherever they buy.
