About Soliloquy CSS Addon
If you already know CSS and the homepage slider can't look like the blog one
WordPress sliders often have a coexistence problem: one site needs a wide, sober slider for the homepage, a compact one for a sidebar and another with eye-catching captions for a campaign. Pre-made templates help, but sooner or later you ask for a different margin, an arrow color or a text size that no panel option offers. Soliloquy CSS Addon is built for that person: someone who can write CSS (or has a developer nearby) and wants to apply it to one specific slider, not to all of them.
If you have never touched CSS, this addon won't solve anything for you: it brings no visual editor, no color pickers and no ready-made styles. It only gives you the place to write your rules. It doesn't work on its own either: it is an add-on for Soliloquy, so you need the slider plugin it extends to be installed.
A CSS box inside the Misc tab of each slider
Once activated, every Soliloquy slider shows a CSS box in its Misc tab. What you write there belongs to that slider and to no other. The interface itself includes guidance on how to style a Soliloquy slider, so you don't start blind.
- Per-slider styling: each slider keeps its own rules, so you can have different designs on the same website.
- No need to touch the templates: you keep using Soliloquy's pre-made templates and only add what is missing on top.
Soliloquy CSS Addon versus the theme's global CSS
You can put the same CSS in the theme's additional CSS section and sometimes that will be enough. The difference appears when there are several sliders: a global rule affects all of them, and you end up adding longer and longer selectors to exclude some and reach others. Still, the quality of the result depends on your rules: a badly written selector can break the slider's view on mobile, so check it at several screen sizes before publishing.
What you should be clear about before starting
This addon doesn't create sliders, add transition effects or new content types. It only changes the look of the ones you already have in Soliloquy. If your problem is that the slider doesn't do something (for example, display another type of content), CSS won't fix it: style and functionality are different things. If you only need to change a color or a size, first check whether the template you use already allows it.
Frequently asked questions about Soliloquy CSS Addon
Does it work without Soliloquy?
No. It is an add-on that plugs into the Misc tab of Soliloquy sliders, so you need that plugin installed and active.
Does the CSS affect all my sliders?
No. The box belongs to each individual slider, and what you write in one applies to that one. To get the same style on several, copy the rules into each of them.
Do I need to know how to code?
You need to know basic CSS: writing selectors and properties. The addon doesn't generate code for you.
