If you publish long texts and your readers don't have time to read them
You have a blog with hundreds of articles and most visitors read the first few paragraphs and leave. Recording every text with a voice actor is unrealistic, so that archive never delivers all it could. Speaker turns your pages into audio with synthetic voice and adds a player with the content.
It fits blogs, portfolios, corporate sites, online shops, real estate listings or online language courses: any site with long pages. But it has clear limits:
- If your content is password-protected or reserved for certain users, Speaker can't work with it: the audio is generated from the page's public markup.
- The voices are synthetic, high fidelity but without the delivery of a professional voice actor. If your brand depends on one specific human voice, this isn't for you.
Speaker reads your whole archive while you keep writing
Batch processing converts every page you already have into audio, with a few clicks from the usual WordPress interface. The site talks about 5 or 5,000 posts: audio is synthesized for all of them. For new ones, the audio can be generated automatically when you save the page.
You can create speech templates with a visual builder and assign a different one to each page or post. The library includes more than 340 voices in more than 52 languages and variants, using Google's WaveNet and Neural2 technologies, and you can adjust the speed and pitch of each voice. You can also add an intro and an outro to every file, such as a greeting or a copyright notice, so they all sound in the same brand style.
SSML: pauses, numbers and several voices in one text
Speaker supports the SSML standard, which lets you fine-tune how each article sounds: where to pause, what intonation to use, how to read numbers and phone numbers the way a person normally would.
The most useful part is that it lets you mix voices and languages on a single page. An interview can use one voice for the interviewer and another for the guest, and it also works for online language courses. Keep in mind that you have to write the markup in the content: it isn't a button that does it for you.
A player you place wherever you want
- Design: five player styles and seven positions on the page. You can place several on the same page, for example to insert the audio version of other articles inside one.
- Where it is enabled: on some pages and not others, for certain user groups and by device (mobile, tablet or desktop).
- Free placement: a shortcode to put it anywhere, plus an addon for Elementor and a widget for WPBakery. It is ready for Gutenberg.
- Download: one setting shows the link to the audio file on the public side, in the admin area or both.
- Languages: it works with multilingual plugins such as WPML and Polylang.
From your blog's audio to a podcast, with backup and statistics
With the generated audio files you can build an RSS feed to publish on podcast services such as Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts or Spotify. Files can be automatically copied to Google Drive, and you get listening statistics per post, plus a widget showing quota usage. It also includes speakable markup for search engines.
