A sticky radio player, without changing theme
Anyone who already has their website built and just wants to add the station hits an annoying problem: almost everything available for radio in WordPress is a full theme, and changing theme means rebuilding the whole site over a player.
Sticky Radio Player is the alternative: a plugin that adds the fixed player to the site you already have, without touching the design.
What it brings by itself
The part that saves the most work is that nothing has to be configured by hand. The player reads the station name, genre categories and currently playing track from the stream itself, and adds artist imagery by consulting external databases. Which means the information updates itself every time the track changes.
Which servers it works with
- ShoutCast, version 2.0 or higher recommended for it to work properly on iOS.
- IceCast, with standard version 2.4.1 recommended. Versions 2.4 kh4 and kh5 **are not compatible with iOS 11**.
- Format: MP3 streams, and AAC on browsers that support it.
Those version warnings are not bureaucratic detail: if your station runs on an incompatible version, iPhone listeners cannot hear you. Worth checking which version your provider uses before buying.
Customisation
Two base skins, black and white, with more than 70 configurable parameters. Controls you do not want can be hidden: the playlist, the volume or the share buttons.
You can also manually override the station name and category labels when what arrives from the stream is not what you want displayed.
Playlists and navigation
Playlist management organised by category, with search. The playlist can be hidden by default so the player takes up less room.
Sharing
Facebook and Twitter integration from the player itself.
Compatibility
It works in Internet Explorer 9 upwards, Firefox, Safari, Opera, Chrome and Edge, and on iOS and Android, with the usual mobile restrictions on autoplay and volume control, which are operating system limitations rather than plugin ones.
