About TheGov – Municipal and Government WordPress Theme

Nobody visits their town website for pleasure

Residents arrive with a task: find an office, learn about an activity, sign up for something, work out who to contact. If they have to get past an institutional home page to reach it, they pick up the phone or come in person, and the work goes back to the front desk.

A municipal website is measured by the calls and queues it avoids, not by the visits it receives. No theme settles that account. TheGov provides the front and the layout tools; the list of what people come to do is your work, and it is worth writing before importing anything.

What TheGov adds on top of Elementor

  • Several home page layouts and one-click demo import.
  • WGL Framework with a header builder using drag and drop, with presets.
  • Over 100 options in the theme panel, and local per-page options with metaboxes.
  • More than 30 modules with settings, such as Counter, Carousel, Testimonials, Info Box, Pricing Table, Team List and Portfolio List.
  • Flexible portfolio, with an infinite-scroll grid and a load more button.
  • Extended module for presenting products on pages, plus WooCommerce support.
  • Translation ready, with RTL support and a child theme included.

How to turn those modules into a public service website

The modules carry corporate website names, but they can be assigned with a different logic:

  • Info Box, for the most sought-after tasks, each with its link, right below the header.
  • Team List, for the council and the heads of each area, with face and name.
  • Portfolio List, for works and projects under way, so residents can see what is being done.
  • Header builder, to keep search and the main shortcuts visible on every page.

Event registration comes with Events Manager, included with the theme. It is a calendar and bookings plugin, with calendar, list and grid views and events tied to locations, which fits a town agenda.

What is still your job

It does not process procedures. Among its features there is no case management, e-government office, tax payment or transparency portal. WooCommerce is for a shop, not for those procedures.

Its content types include portfolio and team. For municipal areas and services, plan on laid-out pages.

It depends on Elementor. TheGov Core and Elementor are required, and the theme is not optimised for Gutenberg. If your team works with the WordPress editor, plan for that change.

Forms are separate. Contact Form 7 is a recommended plugin.

Translatable is not multilingual. Among its features there is no management of several languages in parallel, something to bear in mind in bilingual areas.

Preparing the server and importing the demo

The recommended PHP memory limit is 256M and the maximum execution time 600 seconds. TheGov Core and Elementor are needed; Contact Form 7, Revolution Slider and WooCommerce are optional. The working order:

  1. Gather in one list the ten questions the phone and the front desk receive most.
  2. Upload the theme file under Appearance > Themes, activate it and install the required plugins.
  3. Import the demo from Theme Options, in Demo Importer. The process can take about 10 minutes.
  4. Use the list to reorder the home page: tasks first and news after.

Other starting points for institutions and agendas

On the same ground, eGovt is another theme for municipal governments. If you are preparing a candidacy rather than an institution, Partin is a theme for campaigns and political parties.

If the town agenda is the core of the project, EventON focuses on the listings, with more than 200 features for publishing, repeating and showing events. And for the requests and forms the theme leaves out, Forminator Pro is a form builder.

Questions before choosing TheGov

Does it work without Elementor?

No. Elementor and TheGov Core are required plugins.

Can it be edited with Gutenberg?

It is not optimised for Gutenberg. Its modules are Elementor modules.

Can it collect fees or process applications?

Among its features there is nothing of the kind. Those procedures need a separate system.

Does it include an events agenda?

Yes, with Events Manager for the calendar and registration.
