About Themify Ultra Premium WordPress Theme

Selling in the EU now requires accessibility, and a theme only provides the frame

If your site sells to consumers in the European Union, accessibility is no longer optional. Directive (EU) 2019/882, the European Accessibility Act, has applied since 28 June 2025 to e-commerce aimed at consumers, and the technical standard it refers to rests on the WCAG criteria. Microenterprises providing services are excluded: fewer than ten people and up to two million euros in turnover or balance sheet.

Ultra, by Themify, states that the theme and its builder are WCAG compliant, and adds accessibility options for the visitor. It is a good starting point with a specific scope: an accessible theme takes care of the frame, not of what you put inside it. Images without alternative text, brand colours with poor contrast or buttons that say "click here" are yours, not the theme's.

A theme with its own builder and fifteen headers

  • Visual builder included, with no third party builder, and hundreds of layouts and blocks.
  • Fifteen header styles, five footer, five archive and five single post styles, site-wide or per page.
  • Accessibility for the visitor: larger text, navigation with Tab and Enter, and dark mode scheduled or from the header.
  • WooCommerce with an Ajax slide cart and a sticky buy button.
  • More than 1,500 Google Fonts, which can be hosted on your server.
  • Twelve builder add-ons, such as maps, contact, a pricing table and a countdown.
  • Compatible with WPML and Polylang, and with right to left languages.

What Ultra cannot make accessible for you

The contrast of your colours. Customisation lets you pick combinations that cannot be read. Check the contrast of each section after applying your brand.

Alternative texts and links. Every informative image needs its description and every link has to make sense out of context. That is written at publishing time.

What other plugins add. A third party chat, form or cookie notice brings its own code, and the theme's compliance does not extend to them.

The header you choose. A side or full screen menu is exactly where the keyboard is worth testing. Go through it using only Tab before calling it done.

The portfolio is separate and a demo can be removed

The portfolio is not enabled by default. It is an optional plugin, Themify Portfolio, only needed if you are going to show work.

A demo can be tried and removed. Importing it brings settings, content, menus and widgets, and erasing it deletes the imported posts and pages without touching your existing content.

It is not an accessibility service. It does not review your content or write alternative texts. And it is designed for self-hosted WordPress.

Installing Ultra and choosing the demo

Test it first on a staging install.

  1. Upload the theme.zip file, not the PSD one, from the theme installer or via FTP, and activate it.
  2. In the Themify settings, skins and demos tab, import the demo closest to your business.
  3. Install Themify Portfolio only if you are going to publish work.
  4. Apply your brand and, before going live, go through the front page with the keyboard and check the contrast.

What to compare Ultra with in the catalogue

For a base theme and building pages with another builder, GeneratePress Premium and Astra Pro are the premium add-ons for those two themes. For a shop built around WooCommerce, Flatsome.

And if you prefer a visual builder as a plugin, Elementor Pro.

Questions about Ultra and accessibility

Does Ultra make my site compliant with the European Accessibility Act?

Not on its own. Your content, your colours and third party plugins count too.

Which online shops does that law apply to?

To e-commerce aimed at consumers in the EU since 28 June 2025, except microenterprises providing services.

Do I need Elementor or another builder?

No. Ultra includes its own visual builder.

Does it work with WooCommerce?

Yes, with a slide cart, a sticky buy button and a mega menu that shows shop content.

Can I try a demo and remove it?

Yes. Erasing it removes what was imported without touching your existing content.
