About TutorLMS Attendance

When a student says they were there and nobody can check

In an online course it is easy to finish a lesson without really being there: it gets opened, skipped through and marked as done. If your training has groups, schedules or someone you answer to, course progress is not enough: you need to know who logged in, when, and how long they stayed.

TutorLMS Attendance is an add-on for Tutor LMS that adds an attendance record to the courses and lessons you already have, without rebuilding any content. You decide who takes attendance: the students themselves or your staff.

TutorLMS Attendance depending on who controls attendance

Academy with groups and a fixed place of connection

You can restrict check-ins to a single IP address, so students can only mark their attendance from that location. If you also set a minimum daily time in the course, just logging in and ticking the box is not enough.

Instructor who prefers to take attendance personally

Students can mark their attendance on lessons and topics, but you can also leave it to administrators and instructors, who record it from the backend or the frontend. Instructors get an attendance tab in the Tutor LMS dashboard itself to mark course and lesson attendance without entering the WordPress admin.

Administration that has to deliver reports

  • A logs area shows attendance counts for enrolled students, grouped by course, by lesson or by user.
  • Time tracking stores each day's login and logout times and the time spent on each course and lesson page.
  • Attendance and time logs can be exported to Excel, and attendance logs can also be imported, useful for moving data or correcting it in bulk.

The calendar that cuts questions about absences

Each student sees their attendance in a calendar inside their dashboard. They can check for themselves whether it was recorded, and you save yourself messages like "I did come".

Questions before enabling TutorLMS Attendance

Does it work with the courses I already have?

Yes, it works on your existing Tutor LMS courses, lessons and enrolled students, with nothing to rebuild.

Can students mark attendance themselves, or does the instructor do it?

It is your choice: students marking on lessons and topics, or administrators and instructors recording it.

Can I get the data into a spreadsheet?

Yes, attendance and time logs can be exported to Excel. Importing is available for attendance logs.

Does it track how long students spend in the course?

Yes: daily logins and logouts and time on each course and lesson page, plus a configurable daily minimum.

Can a record be corrected?

Management stays with staff: administrators and instructors can mark attendance for users, and logs can be imported with corrected data.

Only one allowed IP, and only inside Tutor LMS

The restriction works with a single IP address, so if your students connect from several sites or different networks, that option does not fit and you will have to leave it off. It is also not a standalone plugin: it depends on Tutor LMS and adds attendance to its courses. It does not replace a videoconferencing system or take attendance of live sessions on its own.
