About Ultimate DB Manager

A database that keeps growing while nobody looks at it

A WordPress site that is a couple of years old piles up invisible junk: post revisions, auto drafts, spam comments, expired transients, orphaned metadata. Ultimate DB Manager brings backup, cleanup and optimization of the database together in a single panel inside the WordPress dashboard.

A clean database produces smaller, faster backups, so the two tasks help each other.

Database backups with the tables you choose

You launch a backup with one click and can pick which tables to include. When it finishes, the plugin takes you to the backup list, which you can sort by date or by size, and you download each file straight from the dashboard. It is handy for taking a quick backup before touching something delicate, such as updating a big plugin or switching theme.

Cleanup and optimization: what it deletes and what it does not cover

Cleanup acts on specific items that you tick:

  • Old revisions of posts and pages, and auto drafts.
  • Posts in the trash.
  • Pending, spam or trashed comments, plus pingbacks and trackbacks.
  • Orphaned metadata for posts, comments, users and terms, and orphaned relationships.
  • Expired transients.

It also optimizes tables and repairs those that are damaged or corrupted. You can set how many days of data to keep. An overview panel reports unused items and the number of tables, options and tasks.

Keep two limits in mind. Backups cover the database only: they do not include files, uploads, plugins or themes, so it does not replace a full site backup. And cleanup is real deletion: if you tick trashed comments or revisions, they are gone, so it is wise to take a backup before the first run.

Frequently asked questions

Can I schedule the tasks?

Yes. You can create as many scheduled cleanup tasks as you need, each with its own items and tables. The frequency can be once, hourly, twice a day, daily, weekly or monthly.

Does it work as a full backup?

No, it only covers the database. For site files you need another solution.

Can I see what is scheduled?

Yes, there is a list of active tasks with name, status, type and next run, and you can delete them from there.

Does it reduce backup size?

By removing unused data, the database weighs less and the backup files come out smaller.

Start with a manual backup and a manual cleanup before scheduling anything

A sensible order: take a manual backup, download it and check it. Then run a cleanup with few items (expired transients, spam, auto drafts) and check that the site is unchanged. Only then add revisions or orphaned metadata and schedule the tasks, for example a weekly cleanup and a daily backup. If your site has heavy traffic, avoid hourly frequencies unless you really need them.
