About UrbanGo – Directory and Listing Theme

A city directory with the pieces already assembled

UrbanGo is a WordPress theme for directories and local guides: restaurants, shops, services, places to see. It ships its own listing system, a dashboard for each business to manage theirs, maps, and the membership and payment modules for selling listings.

In other words, it does not depend on a third-party directory plugin: everything comes in the same package.

What it includes

  • Its own listing system, with front-end submission and an address field with autocomplete.
  • User dashboard, so whoever publishes manages theirs without entering the admin.
  • Memberships and payment, with their own modules, for monetising listings.
  • Maps with listings, with configurable styling and a shortcode for placing them anywhere.
  • WPBakery builder and Revolution Slider included, and compatible with Elementor.

The two things to weigh up

The listing system belongs to the theme. That is convenient, because everything fits out of the box and there is no making a directory plugin agree with a theme that did not expect it. And it is a risk, because your listings, with their fields and their categories, live in the theme's structures. Changing theme is not changing the appearance: it is migrating the business's database.

For a project that will live for years on this theme, a reasonable decision. For one wanting to test the format, a directory system independent of the theme is better.

The maps run on Google. And Google Maps charges by usage above a certain volume, address autocomplete included. On a directory showing a map on every search that volume arrives sooner than it looks. Worth checking your projected query count and, if the project is going to grow, considering themes that support free alternatives.

Who it is for

Local city guides, neighbourhood retail directories, tourism portals, professional service listings and associations wanting to give their members visibility.

Frequently asked questions

Does it need a separate directory plugin?
No. The listing system, the membership and the payment are modules of the theme itself.

Can businesses publish their own listing?
Yes, from the front end, and manage it from their user dashboard.

Which maps does it use?
Google Maps, address autocomplete included, which above a certain volume carries a cost.

What are the pages built with?
With WPBakery Page Builder, included. It is also compatible with Elementor.
