About Wishlist Member WordPress Plugin

Your content calendar moves when the member logs in

You schedule the second module to arrive a few weeks after signup and consider the calendar done. The date passes, the member does not come back and stays on the same level. Your schedule was fine, but in WishList Member the sequential upgrade fires when each member logs in.

That design spreads the work member by member and avoids performance problems on large sites. Its consequence is that progress depends on a visit, and anyone who stops coming in stays where they were. If you need everyone to advance without logging in, a cron job on the server is required, something usually handed to the host.

Add or Move, and the date of each step

The sequential upgrade is configured under Members > Sequential Upgrade and chains levels. At each step you choose how it happens:

  • Add: the member keeps their level and gains the next one, so content accumulates.
  • Move: they leave their level and go to the next one, useful when each stage replaces the previous one.
  • After: the upgrade happens after the days, weeks, months or years you set from their registration to that level.
  • On: the upgrade happens on a fixed date and time.

The levels reached reuse the transaction ID of the initial one, so if the member cancels they lose access to the current level and the previous ones, and the sequence stops.

What each level protects, files included

  • Unlimited levels and members on each site.
  • Content: pages, posts, categories, comments and custom post types, plus sections within a page.
  • Access models: free, paid, monthly subscription, free trial or pay-per-post content.
  • Archive: content that expires by date or after a number of days, kept only by those who joined earlier.
  • Folders: protection comes enabled, and each new level creates its protected folder.

Media library files are enabled under Content Protection > Files and can be protected, unprotected or inherit the status of the page where they appear. Nginx needs specific instructions, and on WP Engine you may have to ask that files with the "protected-" prefix not be cached. Keep in mind too that a member with the right level can download the file once logged in.

Payments, mailing lists and courses

It accepts more than 20 payment providers, among them PayPal, Stripe, WooCommerce, Authorize.Net, ClickBank, JVZoo, ThriveCart, SamCart and 2Checkout. Email and CRM connections include Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, AWeber, ConvertKit, Keap, MailerLite and Ontraport.

For courses it includes CourseCure, with lessons, quizzes, points and badges, and it integrates with LearnDash, LifterLMS, Sensei LMS and WP Courseware. Developers get a REST API and WordPress-style template tags.

Getting started with the wizard

It needs a compatible PHP version on the server; a lower one can cause errors when uploading or updating the plugin, and its Self Check includes a PHP check. After that, these are the steps:

  1. Install the plugin and run the setup wizard.
  2. Follow the Membership Success Checklist on the dashboard.
  3. Create a level, with its welcome page and its member home page.
  4. Protect the content and create the sales page.
  5. Set up access, with custom screens or social login if you need them.
  6. Build the sequence and decide whether you need the cron job.

Four membership plugins to compare

MemberPress Pro combines access rules, drip content, recurring billing and coupons, with separate add-ons for functions such as forums or directories.

WooCommerce Memberships lives inside the shop: it grants access with the purchase of a product, and automatic renewals also need WooCommerce Subscriptions.

Paid Memberships Pro and s2Member Pro are two more options in the catalog for member sites.

Upgrades that do not arrive and moving to another site

Why did a member not move up on the expected date?

The upgrade fires when they log in. For it to happen without that visit you need a cron job on the server.

Can I take the configuration to another site?

Yes. Migration exports level settings, global settings or both to a file that is imported on another site with WishList Member.
