About WooCommerce Authorize.net AIM Payment Gateway
Take card payments without sending customers to another site
When payment happens on someone else's page, some buyers drop out along the way: the look changes, they get wary, or they leave. And if the whole charge happens in your store, the opposite problem appears: card data security becomes your concern. WooCommerce Authorize.net AIM Payment Gateway tries to solve both: customers pay without leaving your site, and Authorize.net handles the sensitive data.
Accept.js and saved payment methods in WooCommerce Authorize.net AIM Payment Gateway
With Accept.js, card data does not pass through your server: Authorize.net handles it directly. Customers notice no difference at checkout, and the plugin gathers the required information with no extra setup. This lowers your PCI compliance burden (SAQ A-EP level), though it does not remove it.
Customers can save cards or bank accounts to their account, see them in a unified «My Payments» section, give them a nickname, change the active method and add new ones without going through checkout. There is no limit to the number of saved methods per customer. The data is stored on Authorize.net's servers.
- Cards accepted: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, UnionPay, Diners Club and JCB.
- International payments: you can accept transactions from customers worldwide.
- Mobile: the form formats the card automatically and uses numeric fields.
- Declines: you can show detailed messages instead of the generic «an error occurred».
Refunds, captures and subscriptions without opening the Authorize.net panel
From the order edit screen you can issue full or partial refunds with «Refund via Credit Card». If the transaction has not been captured or settled yet, the plugin performs an automatic void instead. If you prefer to only authorize the charge and collect it later, you can capture it from the same order, or let it capture itself when the status changes to a paid one.
It also works with WooCommerce Subscriptions (including payment date and subscription date changes; customers can sign up with a card or eCheck) and with WooCommerce Pre-Orders, to take payment details upfront and charge when the product is released. You can also force the charge on orders with only virtual items, instead of just authorizing them.
What to check before choosing this gateway
This gateway fits if you already have, or are about to open, an Authorize.net account and want to control the checkout inside your store. It does not fit if you want a gateway that works without your own account at that processor.
- You need an SSL certificate, because payment happens on your site.
- To use all features, such as saving payment methods, your Authorize.net account must have the CIM service enabled.
- eChecks require an active eCheck account at Authorize.net and only work for customers with US bank accounts.
- Subscriptions and pre-orders only work if you have the WooCommerce Subscriptions or WooCommerce Pre-Orders plugins.
What details do I need to connect it?
The API credentials (ID and key) from your Authorize.net account, saved in the plugin settings.
Can I charge bank accounts?
Yes, with eChecks, but only for US accounts and with an active eCheck account.
Do I still have to meet PCI requirements?
Accept.js and storage at Authorize.net reduce your responsibility but do not remove it. Check with your processor which level applies to you.
Does it give me transaction reports?
Not by itself: there is a separate extension, Authorize.Net Reporting, that is compatible with this gateway.
