About WooCommerce Buy One Get One Free

Giving away product without giving away margin: the problem with any BOGO

A badly planned 2-for-1 eats your margin without moving what you actually need to clear: the customer takes the cheapest item, the slow stock stays in the warehouse and you have discounted something that was already selling on its own. This plugin lets you design the offer with rules: which products count, what is given away, to whom and until when.

For anyone with idle stock, a 2-for-1 is a clearance tool. For a store that already sells well, it is a way to raise the average order value, because the customer has to buy more to reach the gift.

Four types of offer in WooCommerce Buy One Get One Free

  • 2-for-1, 3-for-2 and similar: the customer gets the cheapest of the products added to the cart for free. The discount appears in the items subtotal in the cart.
  • Gift of their choice: when buying certain products, the customer picks their gift in a pop-up window, and can pick one or several. It works with variations, so they can choose the size of the free t-shirt.
  • Automatic gift: the item is added to the cart on its own when the condition is met, for example sunglasses when buying two t-shirts, or one more unit of the same product.
  • Discounted price instead of free: you can also set the item at a reduced price rather than free.

Which promotion suits your store

You have stock that does not sell

Apply the 2-for-1 or 3-for-2 to a specific category, or to individual products, and set a start and end date so it does not stay active forever.

You sell products with accessories

If someone buys a product from the "Laptop" category, they can pick a free one from the "Laptop case" category. It is a gift that costs little and makes the order bigger.

You have wholesale customers or a loyalty list

You can create promotions for specific user roles, such as wholesalers, and limit how many times each user can use one. You can also require a minimum spend or activate the offer only with a specific coupon, which is useful for email or social campaigns.

You run several offers at once

There is no limit on promotions. You can combine two or more or give priority to one over the others, so they do not step on each other.

What else to know before setting it up

It is compatible with WPML and Polylang, with block-based cart and checkout pages and with high-performance order storage (HPOS). It is available in English, French and Spanish.

The start date rules, but check the clock for flash promotions

Scheduling allows a start and end date. If your strategy is flash offers lasting only a few hours, check in the demo how it handles time and time zone before planning a campaign.

It is also not a plugin for handing out percentage discounts across the whole store: it is designed for gifts and quantity offers. Check in the demo how the category exclusions you need behave.
