Charge real shipping costs in Canada, not a flat rate that guesses
A flat shipping rate seems convenient until a heavy order crosses the country and you pay the difference. Or until the customer in the next town sees an expensive shipping charge and abandons the cart. In a country this large, the cost of shipping varies a lot with destination, weight and size, and whoever ignores that ends up giving away margin or scaring off sales.
WooCommerce Canada Post Shipping Method queries the Canada Post rates API and shows real prices in the cart and at checkout, based on the address, the items and the way you pack. It covers domestic, USA and international shipments.

If you ship large or heavy parcels
Packing is what matters here. You can send each item separately, add up the cart weight and split it into parcels of up to 30 kg, or define your own boxes (height, width, length, weight and maximum weight) so the box packer groups items by volume. That last option best reflects what you actually put in the box.
If you sell small, light items
You can enable Standard and Registered Lettermail. Note: Lettermail does not come from the API, so it is not a live quote but a fixed price calculated with the box packer. Each shipment allows up to 500 g, and if the cart exceeds that, the rate returned covers several shipments.
If you ship valuable, fragile or age-restricted items
You can add extra coverage, signature required and proof of age, plus the option to leave a card so the recipient can pick up the parcel.
If your Canada Post account has business pricing
The Commercial quote type uses the rates and discounts tied to your account, including those of Solutions for Small Business (formerly VentureOne) members, so the customer sees your negotiated price. Counter returns the counter rates you would pay at a post office.
Adjust what the customer sees without losing the live rate
You can enable or disable each service, rename it, reorder it and apply an adjustment as a percentage or a fixed amount: positive to cover packaging or handling, negative to pass on a discount. You can also show an estimated number of days next to each rate and decide whether the customer chooses among all options or only sees the cheapest one.
The Canada Post services you can offer
- Domestic: Regular Parcel, Expedited Parcel, Xpresspost, Xpresspost Certified, Priority, Library Books and Lettermail.
- United States: Expedited Parcel USA, Xpresspost USA, Small Packet USA Air and the Priority Worldwide services (Envelope, Pak and Parcel).
- International: Xpresspost International, International Parcel Air and Surface, Priority Worldwide (Envelope, Pak and Parcel) and Small Packet International Air and Surface.
You enable only the ones you actually offer and the customer does not see the rest.
Questions before connecting your Canada Post account
Do I need a Canada Post account? Yes. You connect your own account during setup. Registering is free, although Canada Post may ask for a card for its own fees and transactions.
Does it work with the cart and checkout blocks? Yes, with blocks as well as classic shortcodes, and it is compatible with high performance order storage (HPOS).
Why am I not seeing rates at checkout? Check that your live account is connected, that the base country is Canada with Canadian dollars, that your products have weight and dimensions and that the method is added to a shipping zone. If Canada Post is down for maintenance, rates may pause for a while.
It requires Canadian dollars and weight and size on every product
The store must have Canada as its base country and Canadian dollars as its currency. It works with cm and kg, although other units are converted automatically. Without weight and dimensions on non-virtual products there is no quote, so if your catalog is half filled in, start there. And it only quotes Canada Post services.
