About WooCommerce Custom Payment

For stores that collect payment outside the gateway, not for taking cards on the website

Many WooCommerce stores get paid by bank transfer, invoice, payment link or cash, and end up handling everything by email: "can you send the receipt?", "which tax ID should I invoice?", "what reference did you use?". WooCommerce Custom Payment is for that buyer: someone who collects payment manually or by alternative means and wants checkout to gather the necessary details from the start.

If you want the opposite, it is not for you. The plugin does not process payments or handle financial transactions: it does not charge cards or move money. What it does is customize how the customer completes the order with a manual or custom payment method. The actual payment still happens outside, through your bank, your payment link or your till.

A payment method with its own form

You can create as many payment methods as you need, each with its own settings. Each one gets an icon to tell it apart on the payment page and instructions for the customer, shown next to the method.

The most useful part is the drag-and-drop form builder. It supports text fields, checkboxes, radio buttons, dates, a signature field and file uploads. That way the customer leaves the transfer reference, the purchase order number or a screenshot of the receipt at the moment of ordering.

Ready-made workflows for manual payments

You do not start from scratch: there are starting workflows that you then adapt to your case.

  • Bank transfer: shows your bank details, collects the reference and, if you want, asks for proof of payment.
  • Pay by invoice: designed for B2B customers, with company details, tax ID, purchase order number and billing contact.
  • Manual payment link: shows a link, a QR code and instructions for external services such as Wise, Revolut, PayPal.me or Stripe Payment Links.
  • Payment proof: collects receipts, screenshots or PDFs during checkout.
  • Cash on pickup: a local method with pickup instructions and store contact details.
  • Manual crypto: shows wallet details, network instructions and QR codes, and collects the transaction hash.

Be aware that showing a wallet or a link does not verify that the money has arrived. You check that by hand.

What happens to the order after payment

You define the status the order is left in after the customer picks your method, which is key if you want to separate orders "pending payment check" from confirmed ones. You can also send email notices to customers and administrators depending on the payment action.

If you work with external systems, the plugin can send the order data to a third-party API after checkout, using POST or GET requests, useful for logistics or record-keeping. It works with WooCommerce Blocks.

Testing safely with debug mode

Debug mode enables the gateway for administrators only, so you can test the form and the API request without touching real customer orders. Before going live, check in the demo how the form looks on mobile, because an upload field on a small screen is where customers get stuck most.

Frequently asked questions about WooCommerce Custom Payment

Can it charge credit cards?

No. It does not process payments. For cards you need a real gateway; this plugin is for manual or alternative methods.

How many payment methods can I create?

As many as you want, each with its own settings, icon and instructions.

Can I ask the customer for proof of payment?

Yes. The builder includes file uploads, and the payment proof workflow is designed to collect receipts, screenshots or PDFs.

Can the order be sent to another system?

Yes, through POST or GET requests to an external API after checkout.

Can I test it without affecting customers?

Yes, with debug mode, which keeps the gateway active for administrators only.
