About WooCommerce Groups
For anyone with content to lock who only needs to charge for access
Selling restricted content often ends up in a spreadsheet: who paid, who should have access, and who must be added by hand every time an order comes in. This plugin removes that step: when a customer buys a product, they are assigned to one or more groups without you lifting a finger.
It suits you if you use (or plan to use) Groups to control who sees what and you want your WooCommerce store to be the entry point. It is not for you if you want a complete membership system in a single install: on its own it does nothing. It needs the Groups plugin, which provides the membership and access control features, and it needs WooCommerce.
WooCommerce Groups: the purchased product decides which group the customer joins
The logic is straightforward: you link products to groups. Whoever orders product A joins group A; whoever orders another product may join one group or several at once. Think of groups as clubs, each with its own rules about who gets access to what.
The hard part of the business is not charging, it is deciding in advance which content belongs to which group. If you mix levels without order, you end up with a catalog where nobody knows what each product unlocks. Sketch the groups and access rules first, then create the products that lead to them.
Memberships with no end date and memberships that expire
With the extension you can set up these offers:
- No time limit: the customer buys once and joins the group.
- Limited duration: the customer accesses restricted resources for as long as their group membership lasts.
- Tied to a subscription: if you use WooCommerce Subscriptions, memberships are controlled according to the length of each subscription.
The last option matters if you sell courses, files or private areas by period. Do make clear on the product page how long access lasts, because people who lose it unexpectedly tend to write in annoyed.
Charging every month requires WooCommerce Subscriptions
This extension connects orders to groups, but it does not generate recurring payments. If your model is a monthly fee, you need to add WooCommerce Subscriptions; if you sell one-off access or access for a fixed period, you can do without it.
It does not replace a course platform or a content manager either: it protects what you already have in Groups, it does not create or organize it for you.

What happens when a limited-duration membership ends?
Access to restricted resources is kept only for as long as the group membership lasts. Check in your test environment how you want your content to behave once it expires.
