About WooCommerce Nested Category Layout
For the store with a few big categories and many subcategories inside
Your customer doesn't think in terms of your category tree: they think about what they want. By default, WooCommerce asks them to guess which branch it's in: click the category, click the subcategory and only then see products. Every click is a chance to leave. This plugin is built for anyone with that problem.
It works for you if your catalog has several levels and you want visitors to see at a glance what each subcategory holds. It won't help if:
- Your catalog is flat, with no subcategories: there is nothing to nest.
- You want filters by price or attributes, or a better search: the plugin only changes how products are grouped on the shop and category pages.
- You want to redesign the product page or the cart: that is not its territory.
One page instead of category, subcategory and product
Instead of showing just a grid of subcategories, WooCommerce Nested Category Layout builds an ordered list: each subcategory with its title and, below it, its products. If visitors want to see more of a subcategory, they click its title. The result is a catalog you browse like a shop window, not like a menu.
That is the change that matters: buyers see products without needing to know first how you organized your inventory.
What you decide: what gets nested, where and how many products
- Which categories are nested: you can leave some with the new layout and others with the normal WooCommerce view.
- Where it applies: on the shop and category pages, or only on the category pages.
- How many products per subcategory: you set it.
That last setting shapes the look of the whole page. Few products per subcategory give a clean catalog that is easy to browse; many turn it into a long scroll. Start with few and let each subcategory title act as the link to the rest.
Uncategorized products and products on two levels
Uncategorized products appear at the top of the page, followed by your categories and subcategories. If a product is in a main category and in a subcategory, it is shown in the subcategory. If it is only in the main category, it is shown there before the subcategories.
It is worth reviewing your products' category assignments before activating the plugin: a misclassified product will show up in the wrong place, now with more prominence.
Your theme decides whether everything fits on the first try
Known compatibility covers WooCommerce themes and Genesis Framework. Its architecture is flexible and supports other themes and frameworks with customization, but that may mean extra work. If you use a different theme or page builder, check in the demo and in your own test store that each subcategory shows the number of products you configured. It is the first check someone using Divi would make, for example.
Frequently asked questions before installing it
Can I leave some categories with the normal view?
Yes. You choose which categories are nested and which are shown in the standard way.
Is it useful if I only have one category with no subcategories?
It adds nothing: its function is to group products by subcategory.
Can I apply it only to category pages?
Yes, you can choose between shop and categories, or categories only.
Does it add filters or search?
No. It changes how the catalog is presented by category, not how it is filtered or searched.
