About WooCommerce Postcode Address Validation

A misspelled address is discovered when the parcel comes back

Shipping to the wrong address costs you the outbound shipment, the return and your customer's patience. Worst of all, the mistake starts at checkout: a postcode with one digit changed, a forgotten door number, a phone with a tiny keyboard. Nobody notices until the carrier sends the parcel back.

WooCommerce Postcode Address Validation brings the check into the checkout form itself: customers look up or validate their address while they buy, when fixing it costs nothing.

WooCommerce Postcode Address Validation has no address database of its own

The plugin works by connecting your store to an external service that looks up addresses or postcodes. You can choose between Loqate, Postcode.nl, PostcodeSoftware.net and Fetchify. You save the API details in the WooCommerce settings, under Address Validation, and choose which provider to activate.

Autocomplete with Loqate

Autocomplete is available with Loqate, which a seller from any country can use. With a paid account, your customers can autocomplete addresses from any country, and each one can be classified as residential or commercial.

Postcode lookup in the UK and the Netherlands

This lookup only covers addresses in the United Kingdom or the Netherlands. For the UK, PostcodeSoftware.net and Fetchify use Royal Mail data and require a low-cost plan with the provider. For Dutch addresses, Postcode.nl is used.

The same fields in One Page Checkout

If you sell with One Page Checkout, the lookup fields also appear there, just as they do on the standard checkout page.

The WooCommerce Cart and Checkout blocks are left out

This is the point to check before buying: the plugin is designed for the classic, shortcode-based checkout. If your store uses the Cart and Checkout blocks, don't count on the validation fields appearing. Split between what it solves and what is left to you:

  • Solves: address lookup or validation during the classic checkout.
  • Solves: autocomplete with Loqate and residential or commercial classification.
  • Solves: postcode lookup in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
  • You cover: opening and paying for the account with the data provider (without it there is no validation).
  • You cover: compatibility with the block-based checkout, which you would have to solve with another plugin or by going back to the classic checkout.
  • You cover: postcode lookup in countries other than the UK and the Netherlands, where Loqate autocomplete is all you have.

Frequently asked questions before installing WooCommerce Postcode Address Validation

Does it work without an account with any service?

No. It needs an account with Loqate, PostcodeSoftware.net, Fetchify or Postcode.nl, depending on the country and the feature you want.

Is it useful for a store outside the UK and the Netherlands?

Yes, with Loqate and its autocomplete, which can be used in any country. Postcode lookup is limited to those two countries.

Can I activate several providers at once?

The settings let you choose which provider to activate. The usual approach is to start with one according to your markets.

Does it work with the Cart and Checkout blocks?

Don't count on it. It is designed for the classic checkout, so check which type of checkout your store uses before buying.
