About WooCommerce Shipment Tracking

If you buy your labels outside WooCommerce, this plugin is for you

When a customer writes "where is my package?", you have already lost ten minutes: finding the order, opening the carrier's site, copying the number and replying. WooCommerce Shipment Tracking exists so that question never arrives, because the tracking number shows up where the customer already looks.

It suits anyone who buys or prints labels outside the store: at the carrier's counter, on another shipping platform or through a fulfillment provider. You have the number and the plugin places it on the order.

It is not for those who buy and print labels inside WooCommerce with WooCommerce Shipping: there, tracking numbers are already generated and saved to orders automatically, and the completed order email includes them. It also does not sell discounted shipping: it only records and links numbers you already have.

Where customers see their tracking number

Once you add tracking details to an order, the information appears in three places:

  • The order emails, such as the completed order email.
  • The order tracking page.
  • The order view page inside the customer's account.

Customers don't need to write to you to find out where their package is: they find it in the email or by logging into their account.

Carriers with automatic links and what to do with the rest

The plugin creates the right tracking link when you pick the provider and type the number. These come built in:

  • Australia Post, Canada Post, City Link, DHL and DPD
  • Fastway South Africa, FedEx, OnTrac and ParcelForce
  • Polish shipping providers, Royal Mail and SAPO
  • TNT Express (consignment and reference), UPS and USPS

If your carrier is not on the list, choose the custom provider option, type the name and paste the full link to its tracking page. It works for regional or small carriers, and the customer sees the same thing in the order and in the email.

Three ways to get numbers into WooCommerce Shipment Tracking

By hand, on the order screen

In the order's tracking panel you choose the provider, type the number and, if you want, the shipping date. If you mark the order as completed at the same time, the completed order email goes out with the link already included.

From your phone

It works with the WooCommerce mobile app, handy if you pack and dispatch away from your computer.

From another tool

It supports adding tracking through the WooCommerce REST API, so a connected shipping or fulfillment system can create the entries without manual input. This mostly matters for high-volume stores, though that other tool must be able to work with the API.

If an order ships in several packages, you can add more than one tracking number and each one is shown to the customer.

What it doesn't do and what to know before installing

  • It does not buy labels or calculate rates: it only records and displays tracking.
  • It does not fill in numbers by itself: someone (you, the app or a connected tool) has to supply them.
  • It works right after installation, with no prior setup.
  • It is compatible with High-Performance Order Storage (HPOS) and with the cart and checkout blocks.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use it with a carrier that isn't on the list?

Yes, with the custom provider option: the carrier's name and the full link to its tracking page.

Can I put several numbers on the same order?

Yes. You add one entry per package and the customer sees them all.

Does the number reach the customer without anything else on my part?

Yes, it is included in the order emails, such as the completed order email, and in their account.

Do I need to configure it?

No, it works right after installation and you can start adding numbers to orders.

Do I need it if I already use WooCommerce Shipping?

Probably not: with WooCommerce Shipping, tracking is already saved to orders automatically.
