About WooCommerce Stamps.com API

Print USPS labels without copying data into another tool

When an order comes in, the usual routine is to open another shipping site, copy the address, check the items and go back to the store to mark the order as shipped. With a few orders it is annoying; with many, it is where address mistakes and duplicate labels creep in. WooCommerce Stamps.com API moves that work to the order screen itself.

The plugin connects your store to your Stamps.com account and generates ready-to-print labels based on the items in the order. It is designed for United States stores that ship with USPS.

Verify the address, top up your balance and refund labels from the admin

Anyone who ships packages has a cost that does not show in the catalog: the failed delivery. That is why the most useful part of this plugin is not just printing, but what happens around the label:

  • Address verification in the order box, to confirm the customer's details before generating the label.
  • Order labels at a glance when you open that order in the WooCommerce admin.
  • Label refunds and deletion if the order changes or you make a mistake.
  • Stamps.com account monitoring and balance top-ups without leaving the dashboard.
  • Automatic funding: it buys postage when the balance drops below the threshold you set. It is handy if the person preparing shipments should not buy postage by hand.

Discounted rates and international shipments: what it does cover

Through your Stamps.com account you get discounted USPS rates, both domestic and international, including Priority Mail and Priority Mail Express, plus package insurance that costs less than USPS insurance. Real savings depend on the services you use and your volume, so do not take them for granted before checking current rates.

For international shipments, the plugin asks for customs details and the contents of the package before it lets you generate the label. It is one extra step per order, but it prevents incomplete labels.

If you prefer to work on the Stamps.com website instead of printing from WooCommerce, another extension, Stamps.com XML File Export, exports orders as XML so you can import them there. With that workflow you get access to all the features of that site, such as tracking emails to customers.

Deciding whether WooCommerce Stamps.com API fits the way you ship

Before installing it, be clear that it is a back-office tool: it prints labels, it does not quote shipping to your customers.

Does it show USPS rates in the cart and checkout?

No. For your customers to see USPS rates when they pay, you need to add the USPS Shipping Methods extension. With both, the customer sees the rate at checkout and you print the label with those same rates from the admin. One quotes and the other prints.

Do I need a Stamps.com account?

Yes, and it has a monthly fee. When you activate the plugin you enter your Stamps.com username and password and set your shipping preferences in the WooCommerce settings.

What does the server need?

Your hosting must have SOAP support before installation. If you are not sure, your provider can confirm it.

Is it useful if I ship with other carriers?

It is built for USPS. If you mainly ship with other carriers, another shipping solution will serve you better. It is also not compatible with the Ship to Multiple Addresses plugin: if you use it, rule this one out.

Does it work outside the United States?

It is aimed at stores based in the United States. International shipments can be created, but from a US-based store.
